Intel(R) PRO/1000 Gigabit Adapter Supplemental Information for
Software Release 2.0

New in This Software Release

The PRO/1000 adapter software has the following new features and improvements:

  - Improved Performance
  - Support for Advanced PCI features such as 64bit/66MHz PCI support, TCP 
    Checksum Offloading and PCI Hot Plug
  - Advanced Networking Services: Teaming (AFT, ALB, GEC), 802.1Q VLAN, and
    802.1p Priority
  - Online HTML User's Guide for improved access to adapter setup information
  - New UnixWare* 7 ddi8 driver.
  - Support for large memory (greater than 4GB RAM systems).
  - Support for Jumbo Frames and Alternate Pathing for Solaris* drivers.

Browser-Viewable Online User's Guide

The PRO/1000 adapter User's Guide is viewable with any recent web browser 
that supports frames. You can view the guide by inserting the CD in your 
computer and waiting for the Autorun menu to appear. Click the User's Guide 
button on the Autorun screen. 

Another way to view the guide is to start the Windows Explorer, go to the 
\INFO folder on the Intel CD and double-click the file called INDEX.HTM.

If you do not have a browser installed, you can obtain one from either of 
the following locations:


To install the online User's Guide on your hard disk, view the Help file,
guide.hlp, in the root directory.

For hardware installation, a Quick Installation Guide is also available on
the CD in the \INFO folder, called GUIDE.PDF. This is the same printed
document that is provided in the product box.

Making Floppy Disks for NetWare* and Windows* Installation

To make a floppy disk of the drivers only for NT, NetWare or Windows 2000,
use the MAKEDISK utility. Place a formatted floppy disk in your drive. Start 
MS-DOS, or Start the MS-DOS prompt in Windows. At the command line type:

   MAKEDISK A: OS <Enter>

where, A: is your floppy drive and OS is your operating system. The choices
are NT (Windows NT) NW (NetWare), and W2K (Windows 2000).

Adapter Teaming Features: Adapter Fault Tolerance (AFT), Adaptive
Load Balancing (ALB), and Gigabit EtherChannel* (GEC)

section of the User's Guide. 

DMI and SNMP Software Support

The PRO/1000 Gigabit adapter provides Desktop Management Interface 2.0 and 
SNMP capability for your Management applications. Software for DMI and SNMP is 
located in the \dmi-snmp directory on this CD.

\dmi-snmp\snmp\win32 directory

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
