New SMI VGA 8MB IC starts from Q2.2005 
ADLINK P/N : 71-00721-02U IC VGA SMI SM721G8BGA-316, Rev:BB stands for VRAM 8MB;
71-00721-00U and 71-00721-01U are old version SMI ICs which come with 4MB VRAM only; 

Differences: 

New dirvers are default to CRT monitor NOT LCD.
If you use old drivers on new cPCI-8217, cPCI-8217, and cPCI-3700A, etc., 
users can see nothing on CRT monitor due to the system is under LCD mode by default. 

Please choose the appropriate drivers for your system. 
If you are not sure, please check the descriptions on the SMI chip,
and then install the right driver. 

New SMI7218BGA-316 drivers: 

5.13.01.0259 version is for Windows 2000.

6.13.01.0270 version is for Windows XP.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
