=========================================================================== Integral Technologies, Inc. FlashPoint NT Developer Tools =========================================================================== This file contains information about the FlashPoint VGA NT Developer Tools. All DLLs and drivers are compatible with NT 3.51 and NT 4.0. =========================================================================== Installation 1) Use the Control Panel Display applet to choose the Microsoft supplied Tseng Labs W32 display driver. You must select a color resolution of 32768 or greater for displaying video. FlashPoint Lite and FlashPoint MV users can select 256 color drivers. FlashPoint 128 users will need to install the display driver from the 128 Display Drivers disk. This is available in the download section of the Integral Web site, http://www.integraltech.com. Run the Control Panel Display applet. Select the settings tab and click on "Display Type". Click on "Change" in adapter type and then click "Have Disk". Browse to the appropriate WINNT35 or WINNT40 directory of the 128 Display Drivers disk and click "Open". Select "Integral Technologies FlashPoint 128" and click "OK". You will need to choose a display mode of 32,000 or more colors for video capture. 2) Developers using offscreen capture should use the replacement display driver DLL from \FlashPT\NT\DISPDRV3 or \FlashPT\NT\DISPDRV4 for NT 3.51 or NT 4.0 respectively. Boot to VGA mode, then copy W32.DLL into the SYSTEM32 directory and reboot into W32 display mode. 3) You will need to use the Control Panel 'Devices' applet to set the NT driver 'FlashPT' to 'Auto' start rather than 'Manual' if a non-admin account is used to run FlashPoint applications. 4) If you need to update the FlashPoint Video drivers, you should stop the FlashPT driver before you install the new software. Use the Control Panel Devices to stop the driver or type 'net stop FlashPT' from the command prompt. In NT 3.51, you can use the Control Panel Drivers applet to install the drivers, NT 4.0 users should use the Control Panel Multimedia applet. Choose 'Add' then 'Unlisted' and indicate the 'NT' directory from the FlashPoint NT installation directory. You can also use the Drivers applet to remove any previous FlashPoint Video driver. This will insure a clean installation. =========================================================================== Components Tseng W32 NT 3.5 Display Drivers -------------------------------- These are no longer supplied with the DK. NT users must have NT 3.51 or greater. The Microsoft supplied Tseng W32 display driver should be selected. You must be running a 64K or 16 million color display driver in order to display a video window. Please note the mode that Tseng calls 64K color is actually 32K (5,5,5). FlashPoint Lite and FlashPoint MV users can display grayscale video on 256 color screens. FlashPoint Kernel Mode Driver ----------------------------- NT requires a kernel mode driver be used to access hardware. FLASHPT.SYS is the kernel mode driver that performs all I/O and memory transfers for FlashPoint. FlashPoint 32 Bit DLL --------------------- FPV32.DLL provides the developer an API for accessing FlashPoint. The parameters, functionality, and return values are identical to those described in the FlashPoint Developer Toolkit and documentation. All ints are now explicitly short ints to maximize compatibility. FPVPUB.H and FPVTYPES.H have been updated for NT. FPVJPG32.DLL works with FPV32.DLL to provide JPEG load/save. FlashPoint Grab Application --------------------------- The FlashPoint Grab application and source are provided as an example of programming FlashPoint under NT. The application has been changed only slightly to fix Win32 compatibility problems. FlashPoint Installable Device Driver ------------------------------------ FPVIDDNT.DLL is an installable device driver that is used to update the registry when the FlashPoint drivers are installed or removed. FlashPoint Thunking DLL ----------------------- FPV.DLL is a thunking DLL which will allow most 16 bit software to work with the FlashPoint. Some 16 bit applications may not work under NT or may not work with our thunking DLL. =========================================================================== Limitations and Gotchas IRQ functions are not yet supported. The FlashPoint NT drivers have only been tested under NT 3.51 and NT 4.0. Note all FPV_ routines return SHORTs. Beware of sign extension when assigning the return value to a 32 bit integer. If a FlashPoint application is to be run at less than admin level, an admin account must be used to set the FlashPT driver to auto start using the Control Panel Devices applet. Auto means the driver will be started each time NT starts, so you must shut down and restart the system after making the change. Note you must then manually stop the driver before doing a software update or the old driver will not be replaced. =========================================================================== Known Bugs =========================================================================== Bug Reports and Comments Please include the following information: System configuration (machine brand, processor, memory) Environment (DOS, Windows3.1, Windows95, WINNT3.1, WINNT3.5) Compiler brand and version Bug description (steps to produce, is it consistant?)
