Perle PCI-RAS V.92 Modem Firmware Update
========================================

Notes
-----

- It is recommended that you update modem firmware only if you are experiencing
problems with the current modem firmware.

- Each modem on a PCI-RAS V.92 card contains its own firmware. The firmware
for each modem on a card must be updated individually.

- The Flash Wizard program used to update the firmware runs under
Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 95, Windows 98,
Windows NT 3.51, Windows NT Workstation 4.0 and Windows XP. You must install
your PCI-RAS V.92 card and drivers in a machine running one of these
operating systems in order to update the modem firmware. Once the modem
firmware has been updated, the card can be used with any supported operating
  system.

Determining the Current Modem Firmware Version
----------------------------------------------

You may wish to determine the current firmware version installed in the modems
on your card, to decide if an update is necessary. This can be done using a
serial communications or terminal emulator program (e.g. Hyperterminal for
Windows or Minicom for Linux). Set up the program to talk to the port or
device name of the modem you wish to query. Enter the command ATI0
The resulting output should be a line similar to the following:

LT V.92 1.0 MT5634SMI-V92 Data/Fax Modem Version 1.32d

The modem firmware version is given at the end of the line
(in this case 1.32d).

Firmware Update Procedure
--------------------------

1. Install the PCI-RAS V.92 card and drivers in the machine to be used to
   update the modems.

2. Put the provided zip file into a temporary directory and unzip it. If you
have already installed the Flash Wizard utility program for a previous
modem update, proceed to step 4.

3. Run the FlashWizXXXX.exe program from the temporary directory to install
the Flash Wizard utility. During installation, note the directory that
the utility was installed into. The default is
   C:\Program Files\Multi-Tech Systems\Flash Wizard

4. Copy the file containing the new firmware from the temporary directory into
the directory that contains the Flash Wizard utility. The firmware file will
   end in .hex e.g. dwqg132d.hex

5. The Start->Programs menu should contain an entry titled Flash Wizard. Click
on this to execute the modem firmware update utility and follow its
instructions to update your modems. Note that multiple modems can be updated
in one operation by holding down the shift or control keys when clicking to
select the modem(s) to be updated.
