================================================================= Imagistics PC-FAX Driver Release Notes September, 2002 ================================================================= Thank you for purchasing a Imagistics Digital Copier. These release notes contain important information that should be read before installing the PC-FAX driver. Please read these notes before proceeding with the installation of the driver. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Supported Models ----------------------------------------------------------------- This PC-FAX driver is designed for use with the Imagistics digital copiers indicated below. The driver will not function correctly if any other printers are connected. In addition, this driver can only be used when the printer feature and fax feature have been installed. Imagistics im3510 / im4510 ----------------------------------------------------------------- System Requirements ----------------------------------------------------------------- * Operating system Windows 95 Windows 98 Windows Me Windows NT 4.0 Workstation (Service Pack 5 or later) Windows 2000 Professional Windows XP Home Edition Windows XP Professional * Computer PC/AT compatible computer supported by one of the above Operating systems (including the NEC PC98-NX Series) ----------------------------------------------------------------- PC-FAX Driver ----------------------------------------------------------------- * The Windows 95/98/Me CD-ROM is required in order to install the PC-FAX driver in Windows 95/98/Me. * The Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM is required to in order to install the PC-FAX driver in Windows NT 4.0. The files required for installation are in the "i386" folder of the CD-ROM. * If you switch to the CD-ROM of your operating system during the installation of the PC-FAX driver, be sure to insert the installation CD-ROM back into your CD-ROM drive when the installation is complete. If you leave the operating system CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive, the installation may not end normally. * If you are a user of Windows NT/2000/XP with limited user rights, some functions of the PC-FAX driver may not be available. To use all of the functions, you must be a user with administrator rights. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Important points when using the PC-FAX driver ----------------------------------------------------------------- Please note the following important points related to sending faxes. * This driver can only be used when the printer feature and fax feature have been installed in your digital copier. In particular, if the fax feature is not installed, you will be able to send faxes from your computer to the digital copier, however, the digital copier will not send the faxes to their destinations. Be sure to verify that the digital copier is equipped with the fax feature before attempting to send faxes. * Long or irregularly shaped documents cannot be transmitted. Transmission may not be possible of a document that contains pages of differing size. * Your computer is not notified of the completion of a fax transmission. To verify completion of a transmission, check the error history that the unit prints. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Hints ----------------------------------------------------------------- * The first time you use the PC-FAX driver after installing it, you may see the message "This printer is not supported by the currently associated driver. The PC-FAX driver will be used in its place." If this message appears, click "OK". * When upgrading the PC-FAX driver, be sure to remove the old version of the driver and restart your computer before installing the new version. * To remove the PC-FAX driver, select "Imagistics PC-FAX Driver" in "Control Panel" - "Add/Remove Application". The PC-FAX driver in the Printers folder will be automatically removed. If multiple PC-FAX drivers are installed, the message "Multiple PC-FAX drivers are installed. Remove all PC-FAX drivers?" will appear. If you select "Yes", all PC-FAX drivers in the Printers folder will be automatically removed. * In as far as is possible, please use the latest version of software applications which support each of the operating systems. * Characters, lines, or photos in color may not appear correctly in transmitted faxes. Be sure to check the fax in the preview screen and adjust the density of the color if needed before sending the fax, or send the fax in black and white. * Brightly-colored lines or fine lines may not appear in transmitted faxes. In this event, use a darker color or a thicker line. * When sending a large amount of fax data, an LPT1 error may occur. In this event, open "Settings" - "Printers" from the Start menu, and change the timeout setting in the "Advanced" tab to a longer setting. * When sending a fax from the PC-FAX driver, a print queue without a name may appear in the printer status window. This is normal and does not indicate a problem. * When sending a fax from Paint or WordPad in Windows NT 4.0, the image may break apart. In this event, set the PC-FAX driver as the default printer and then re-open the file and fax it. * If a "Collate copies" setting appears in the print dialog box or the printing settings of an application, do not select this setting. If this setting is selected, only the first set of copies will be transmitted; further sets will not be transmitted. * If you fax a document that was created on a different computer, it is possible that the documents uses fonts that your computer does not have. In this event, the transmitted fax may appear slightly different from how the document would have appeared if faxed from the original computer. To have the document appear the same, you must install the fonts that the document uses on your computer. * When the PC-FAX driver is first used in Windows 95, an icon may temporarily appear on the desktop. This is normal and does not indicate a problem. * When documents created in some applications are faxed with a resolution setting of 200 x 100 dpi (standard) or 200 x 400 dpi (super fine), characters may appear double and the image may break down.In this event, use a resolution setting of 200 x 200 dpi (fine) or 400 x 400 dpi (ultra-fine). * In Windows XP, the following message will appear when you select the "Change folder (F)" button in the Select Cover Sheet screen. "C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location." When this occurs, click the "OK" button. A dialog box will appear to let you select a new folder. * If you use a TIFF file in the cover sheet editor, select no compression or "Pack bits". If you use a TIFF file with G4 or G3 compression, the image will not display correctly. * When editing a cover sheet in the Cover Sheet Editor, use the "Save" command to save the cover sheet. If the "Save as" command is used to change the location of the cover sheet, the cover sheet may not display or transmit correctly. When creating a new cover sheet, the "Save as" command can be used without problem. * The destination name, fax number, number of pages, and memo will not appear in the preview screen of the Select Cover Sheet screen. If you wish to check these items before faxing, use the preview window in the transmission screen or the enlarged view (preview) screen. * Destination names are automatically inserted in cover sheets, however, honorary titles such as "Mr." or "Ms." are not included. If you wish a title to appear before the name on the cover sheet, include the title with the name when storing or editing the destination name. You can also use the Cover Sheet Editor to add a text frame containing the title to the cover sheet. * The page zoom and rotate commands in the PC-FAX viewer are only effective in the main screen; they are not effective in the reduced view (thumbnail) screen. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Software application limitations ----------------------------------------------------------------- * When a fax is sent from the following applications with the resolution set to 200 x 100 dpi (standard), the width of the image may be reduced. If the resolution is set to 200 x 400 dpi (superfine), the width of the image may be enlarged. Microsoft VISIO 2000, Microsoft Word 97, Presto! PhotoDesigner * When a fax is sent from the following applications with the resolution set to 200 x 100 dpi (standard), English fonts may appear larger in width and characters may overlap or be blurred. If the resolution is set to 200 x 400 dpi (superfine), the width of English fonts may appear smalle. Adobe Acrobat 4.0, Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 * When a fax is sent from the following application with the resolution set to 200 x 100 dpi (standard) or 200 x 400 dpi (superfine), the spacing between characters may not be maintained normally. Lotus Freelance 97 * When a document is created in Autocad2000 in A3 size and output in A3 size, the output size may change to A4 and only the part that fits in the first page will be transmitted. * If you fax an entire Book created in MS Excel and the Book contains sheets with different resolution settings, the image may break apart. * If you fax an entire Book created in MS Excel and the Book contains sheets with different size settings, multiple "Select Destination" screens may appear and the transmission may fail. In this event, fax each sheet separately. * When using MS Excel, if you change the resolution in the PC-FAX driver, the output range of each page may change. * If you fax an MS Word file with pages of differing sizes, an error may occur. * In MS Word, if you select the "Allow A4/Letter paper resizing" setting and set the paper size to letter with the PC-FAX driver resolution set to 200 x 100 dpi (standard) or 200 x 400 dpi(super fine), the output range may change. * If you create a document with no margins in an application that allows the printing margins to be set, some parts of the document may not print at the receiving machine. * In you install Microsoft Office XP in Windows NT or Windows 98 after installing the PC-FAX driver, the following error message may appear: Error 25506. Microsoft Office XP requires updated system files not detected on your computer. You must install the Microsoft Office XP System Files Update prior to installing Office XP. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ASYCFILT.DLL is version 2.40.4275.1 when we require version 2.40.4277.1. As of November, 2001, the following solution appears on Microsoft Corporation's Web site: 1. Insert your CD-ROM for your Microsoft Office XP program. Hold down SHIFT to stop Setup from automatically starting, or click Cancel when Setup runs. 2. Click Start , point to Programs , and then click Windows Explorer. In Microsoft Windows NT, point to Programs , point to the Accessories folder, and then click Windows Explorer. 3. Open your CD-ROM drive, and then navigate to the following folder: drive \Files\Osp\1033\IE5\En 4. Double-click Oainst.exe to install the OLE automation update. The following files will be installed: Advpack.dll Oainst.inf Asycfilt.dll Oleaut32.dll Olepro32.dll Stdole2.tlb Regtlib.exe W95inf32.dll W95inf16.dll 5. Run Setup again. Further information can be found at the following URL: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q301/0/64.ASP * If you attempt to print an MS Word file by directly dragging and dropping the file on the PC-FAX driver, an error message may appear and the preview screen will not open. In this event, do not use drag and drop; instead, open the file in MS Word and print from MS Word. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
