When this happens, please make sure that the IP address is correct and the scanner device is powered up. If the registered device exists on the local network and "Search local network scanner" is selected, the registered device name will appear. * Document deletion timing When a Computer imports data from a scanner, the document stored in the Mailbox will be deleted once the last page of the document has been imported. It is possible that the document might have been deleted before it is imported if the importing process is met with the following interruptions at the Computer: ** an error occurs during the process of compression and uncompression at the Computer ** the Cancel button of the utility is pressed and the importing process is cancelled ** the Computer is rebooted When this happens, the document could not be imported again. * Limitations when executing the utility ** The scan driver and Mailbox Viewer2 cannot be used at the same time by the same Computer Moreover, the scan driver cannot be used in multiple applications. (1) Depending on the product, when the utility is importing data from a particular scanner, that scanner cannot be used by another Computer for data importing. However, you can display the document list from the utility. (2) Depending on the product, when a FAX is being transmitted, you cannot specify the scanner to import data. However, you can display the document list from the utility. In both cases (1)(2), you will have to wait until the current job process is completed before importing data again. * When a decoding error occurs while a FAX document is being imported When a decoding error occurs while a FAX document is being imported, that particular page might not be correctly displayed on the screen. * About pages when transmission is disconnected during importing If transmission between the multi-function machine is disconnected when importing a document that is stored in the mailbox, the imported page may not be displayed correctly. * Importing multiple documents When importing multiple documents stored in the mailbox, communication with the machine will be cut off temporarily while importing each document. The importing process may be terminated if the scanner is being used by other computers during this timing. * When image importing is in progress, select the space key or the Enter key to cancel. * Usually when the Cancel button is selected, it becomes suppressed. Display GUI before selecting Cancel. However, depending on the progress of the cancellation, GUI may not be displayed. * The following character string cannot be used as the path name for "Temporary Save in", "Save in" and "Folder Naming". \ / : * ? " < > | * Text Used for File Name or Location If text which cannot be displayed using Windows are included in the file name or location, they will not be displayed correctly at File Name or Location in the network scanner dialog box. Moreover, if File name is selected at Folder Naming of the Import Settings dialog box, text which cannot be displayed correctly will be changed to "_". If the text cannot be changed, the file name and location will not be added to the folder. * If the mailbox is configured not to delete data after importing, the Mailbox Viewer2 will not be able to import the same data again after importing it once. * When there are multiple documents stored in the Mailbox Viewer2, the Mailbox Viewer2 does not allow you to specify and import only the specified document. * When the Mailbox cannot be opened The document stored in the scanner may be corrupted if an error message "Invalid password" always appear and the contents of the Mailbox cannot be displayed even though the Mailbox number and password are correctly entered. When this happens, delete the document data that is stored in the Mailbox from the scanner. * When the file space specified at "Temporary Save in" and "Save in" is insufficient If there is insufficient file space in the specified location at "Temporary Save in" and "Save in", the documents cannot be imported correctly and may be destroyed. Specify a drive with plenty of file space. * Canceling when uninstallation is in progress When Cancel is selected during uninstallation, some of the files left will become defective. As a result, it will not operate normally and uninstallation cannot be carried out again. If you have selected Cancel, reinstall to return it to the normal state. * Cancellation During Version Upgrading Canceling the installation in process may not allow uninstallation of the utility that has been already installed. In this case, re-install the utility before uninstallation. * Conflicting of Ports If the port to be used in this utility is being used by another application or service, the following message will be displayed: "Network Scanner Utility2 is not available as the port conflicts with another application or service. End the application or service first, and then retry." In this case, you must end the application or service using the port. After that, re-execute this utility. Cautions/Limitations in the application of this scan driver -------------------------------------------------------------- This section describes the cautions and limitations for individual applications that are identified. * All applications **Importing Huge Images Depending on the application used, memory error or freezing/hanging of application may occur when importing huge images. When this happens, the imported file may be deleted. Please confirm the specifications of the application before use and do not import images that exceed the limitations. **When document scanned in pseudo-grayscale is imported, spots may appear on the image. **For applications that do not support multi-page document, only the first page will be imported even though multiple pages of the scanned document are imported. In this case, open the "Settings" dialog box from the "Settings" button of the scan driver and then select "By page" for the "Display Mode". As the document information will be divided and displayed one page at a time with this setting, import the images of these divided pages one page at a time. Only the first page will be displayed. * Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. DocuWorks Ver. 3.1.6/DocuWorks Ver. 4.0.5 / DocuWorks Ver. 5.0.2/ DocuWorks Ver. 5.0.3 When images exceeding the size limit specified in DocuWorks are scanned, an error will occur. For details, please refer to the DocuWorks Help. When scanning a long document, the width of the document will determine the standard paper size to be used. Thus the long document will be divided equally based on the standard paper size and become a multi-page document. If "Fit to Standard Size Paper" is selected, the unintended paper size may be selected. When this happens, change the settings at DocuWorks Desk according to your needs. For example, when the scanner reads an A4 size document as Letter. In this case, configure the following settings at the DocuWorks Desk. 1. Select Option... from File of the DocuWorks Desk. 2. Click the "Scan and Import" tab. 3. Check the box next to "Fit to Imported Image". If the paper size of an imported document is greater than A3 size, configure the following settings at the DocuWorks Desk to reduce it to A3 size. 1. Select Option... from File of the DocuWorks Desk. 2. Click the "Scan and Import" tab. 3. Check the box next to "If scanned image exceeds A3 size, fit it into A3.". For DocuWorks Ver. 3.1.6, if the first page of an uncompressed multi-page TIFF file with color and black/white pages imported by Mailbox Viewer2 is a color page, the file will not be displayed. For DocuWorks Ver. 3.1.6, all pages of a multi-page TIFF file imported by Mailbox Viewer2 will be standardized and displayed in the size of the first page. When this driver is associated with DocuWorks 5.0 and the scanned image is imported from the mailbox to DocuWorks Desk, scanning may fail with a message stating "TWAIN Communication Error" appears. When this happens, you can install Network Scanner Utility2 Ver. 3.0.4 or later to rectify the problem. In the previous driver version, problem will occur when the document name including path length exceeds 126 bytes. In DocuWorks 5.0, the same problem is expected if the hierarchy of the folder path exists deep down the directory during standard installation. If document with width or length exceeding 500mm is scanned, the area that has exceeded 500mm will not be displayed. For sizes such as A0, if both the width and height of the original document exceed 500mm, the dimension that will be displayed is 500mm x 500mm. If the size of the original document exceeds the dimension of A3 size, follow the steps below. 1. File (F) > DocuWorks Desk Options (O) 2. Select "Scan and Import" tab. 3. Select "If scanned image exceeds A3 size, fit into A3 (M)". * Adobe Systems, Inc. Adobe(R) Acrobat 4.0/Adobe(R) Acrobat 5.0 If Cancel is selected during the importing process from the scan driver, an error message will appear. However, you can still continue to use the scan driver. The multi-page Tiff file consisting of color and grayscale pages that is output by Mailbox Viewer2 and compressed in JPEG format cannot be displayed. Non-compressed multi-page Tiff file consisting of color and grayscale pages can be displayed. When importing cannot be performed due to insufficient virtual memory, you can resolve this problem by changing to an available drive where the environmental variable TEMP has sufficient disk space. When importing to Acrobat cannot be performed due to the limitations of the image size, an error message stating, "Could not complete the acquisition because of a problem with the device." will be displayed. * Adobe Systems, Inc. Adobe(R) Acrobat 6.0 This scan driver does not support multi-page scanning in Acrobat 6.0. Open the dialog box using the "Settings" button in the scan driver, then select "By page" for "Display Mode" and scan one page at a time. If multiple pages are scanned at a time, the following message is displayed. "You are trying to scan pages that have a different format as the page scanned previously. The application that you are using cannot perform this operation properly, scanning is cancelled. To scan this document, please select "By page" and scan one page at a time." The above message is also displayed for documents scanned or faxed using the same settings. * Adobe Systems, Inc. Adobe Photoshop 5.5/Adobe Photoshop 6.0 /Adobe Photoshop 7.0 According to Photoshop specifications, a long document of maximum 30000 pixels x 30000 lines can be read by the application. When this limit is exceeded, an error message will appear if you try to import the document and after which, the scan driver dialog box cannot be closed. When this happens, terminate Photoshop by pressing Alt+Ctr+Del. Depending on the memory size of the Computer, an error message stating,"Network connection failed" may appear after "Select TWAIN_32 Source..." is executed. When this happens, reduce the memory size by approximately 50% at Memory & Image Cache... of Preferences from File (for Ver. 5.5) or Edit (for Ver. 6.0).
