Instructions for installing the GDC QUESTER II-III V.90 Modem driver
(Q2-3V90F.inf)for Win 95, Win 98 and NT 4.0. This modem will currently
not be automatically detected by these Operating Systems and therefore
must be installed from disk. (Ref. disk GDC P/N 080Z040-302A)

NOTE: This .inf File is used for both the Quester II & III V.90 Modems.

1. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and double-click on the "Modems"
   icon.

2. Remove any existing modems from the "Modem Properties" screen by 
   clicking on them and then clicking "Remove". See note 2.

3. Click "Add".

4. On the next screen ("Install New Modem" screen) check the box for
   "Don't detect my modem: I will select it from a list". Then click "Next".

5. On the next screen click "Have Disk".

6. On the next screen ("Install From Disk" screen) make sure this disk is in 
   drive "A", then click "OK".  Note: If the inf file is not on floppy disk, 
   click "Browse" and go to the location of the new inf file. Click "OK" to 
   the message "Copy manufacturers file from (new file location )".

7. "Install New Modem" screen now shows the new inf file name 
   (General DataComm QUESTER II-III V.90). Click "Next".

8. Select the port to use with this modem. Click "Next" Note: If a "Location 
   Information" screen comes up, answer the questions appropriately and then 
   click "Next".

9. The note at the top of the next screen should read "Your modem has been set
   up successfully". Click "Finish".

10. "Modem Properties" screen now shows the new inf in "the following modems
    are set up on this computer ". 

11. Highlight the modem entry and click "Properties" to set maximum (DTE)
    speed appropriately. Click "OK". At "Modem Properties" screen, click 
    "Close".

Notes: 
1. The modem driver file indicates that the maximum DTE speed is 230.4 Kbps.
   This speed may not be achievable due to hardware and or application 
   limitations. In most cases the maximum speed will be reported as 115.2 Kbps.

2. If multiple modems are installed on different ports, only the modems on the
   port you wish to use must be removed. To see which port a modem is connected
to, highlight the modem and click on "Properties".

3. If you do not want the modem speaker to be on, go to the "Modem Properties"
   screen, click on "Properties" and change the Speaker volume setting to "Off".

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
