1. Introduction:
   Etoms PC Camera is a Windows Plug and Play product. The driver can be
   easily installed through plug and play procedure. This section 
   consists of two parts: 
   A. First-time Installation: for first-time installing a Etoms PC 
      Camera on your system.
   B. Updating Driver: If a previous version of the driver is installed 
      on your system, please follow this part of instructions.

   The driver configuration is defined in the the pcam800.inf file. The
   default settings for the CCD type and the CDS type are Sharp CCD and
   CDS. A user must change the default settings to match his/her 
   hardware configuration before installing the software.  Use an Editor
   to change the settings according to the instructions provided inside
   the pcam800.inf file.

   This document is eligible for Etoms PC Camera driver R3.00 and all
   later versions.
  

2. Driver Installation Procedure

 A. First-time Installation:
   1. Create a directory in your hard disk (C:\PCAM, for instance), and
      copy all the files into it.
   2. Plug in your PC camera. Windows system shows "New Hardware Found".
   3. Follow the Windows instructions to setup the driver. When asked
      the new driver location, choose "Specify a location" and select
      "driver" subdirectory under the directory you create in step 1.
   4. The Windows system will use pcam800.inf to setup the new driver.
   5. Run demo application (divpcam.exe) under "bin" subdirectory to see
      if the new driver works. 

 B. Updating Driver:
   1. Make sure your PC camera is plugged in.
   2. Copy new driver files into a directory (C:\PCAM, for instance).
   3. Click Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel, choose "Systems".
   4. Choose Device Manager label -> Imaging Device -> PC Camera
      Capture. Then click "Properties" button.
   5. Choose Driver label, then click "Update Driver" button.
   6. Follow the Windows instructions to setup the driver. When asked 
      the new driver location, choose "Specify a location" and select
      "driver" subdirectory under the directory you create in step 2.      
   7. The Windows system will use pcam800.inf to setup the new driver.
   8. Plug out your PC camera and plug in again, to reload the driver.
   9. Run demo application (divpcam.exe) under "bin" subdirectory to see
      if the new driver works. 


3. Usage Etoms Demo Application (divpcam.exe) with DirectShow API;
   1. Run divpcam.exe from "bin" directory to launch the application.
   2. Click Menu "Devices", choose "PC-CIF Camera Capture". If you 
      cannot see any image, please close it and repeat 1).
   3. If there is no image or wrong image, click Menu "Device Test",
      choose "ColorBar" to test the chip. If there is a color bar, there
      may be some errors in USB transmission. If there is still no image
      or wrong image, there may be some errors in Board level or driver
      level. 
   4. If the image is not in right color(e.g. too red, too green etc.),
      click Menu "Options", choose "Video Capture Filter". Face the
      camera to a white paper or white wall, then choose tab
      "Advanced Control" and click "Auto" checkbox in "White Balance"
      Group to do Auto-whitebalancing. 
   5. Click Menu "Options", choose "Video Capture Pin". Change the size 
      to 352x288.
   6. Click Menu "Options", choose "Video Capture Filter". Choose tab 
      "Image Control" and you can do some basic adjustment.
   7. If you need fine-tuning the image processing parameters in ET31X110.
      Click Menu "Options", choose "PCAM Register". You can use the
      register editor to change the register value of the device. For
      detail register value information, please see the 
      ET31X110 PC Camera Engine Technical Manual. 
   8. Click Menu "Capture", choose "StartCapture" and assign the 
      destination file to capture video into AVI file. choose
      "StopCapture" when you want to stop.


4. Minimum PC System Requirements:
   1. Etoms PCAM evaluation board or equivalent USB PC camera;
   2. AMD K6 CPU or Intel Pentium 200MHz or above CPU;
   3. USB Port;
   4. Windows98 Operating System;


5. Uninstallation of Pcam Software:

(1) Under Windows 98, Go to "Add/Remove Program" under Control Panel;
    and then select "PC-CIF Camera Capture" entry to remove all installed software 
    components. All files and Windows registry keys are totally cleaned-up from the
    system.
(2) Under Windows 2000, user should do two steps:
    A. Go to "System" under Control Panel; and then click "Hardware"; then click 
       "Device Manager"; then select "Imaging devices"; then uninstall "PC-CIF
       Camera Capture".
    B. Go to "Add/Remove Program" under Control Panel; and then select "PC-CIF
       Camera Capture" entry to remove all installed software components.

NOTE: There is still one key left under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Enum/USB,
      which shows the vendor ID/product ID and can not be deleted.  This is due to Win2000
      system protection that will not allow user (or system administrator) to delete any 
      USB device under normal system bootup.  The key can be deleted only if you boot up
      PC in Safe Mode.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
