General Notes ------------------------------------------ This driver is used for connecting the digital camera to your computer with the supplied USB cable. The digital camera purchased uses Mass Storage Class USB, so that when the digital camera is connected to the computer with the supplied USB cable, a new drive number is assigned in "My Computer" in which the memory card (CF card) in the digital camera is shown as a removable medium. Images stored in the digital camera can be opened, copied and moved to the computer easily using application software in the same way as for other removable media. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Hardware Requirements ------------------------------------------ o Computers preinstalled with Windows 2000/Me/98, or with Windows 2000/Me upgraded from preinstalled Windows 98 (IBM PC/AT compatible or NEC PC-98NX series) o CPU 486 MHz or higher (Pentium or higher recommended) o CD-ROM drive (for installation) o Keyboard and mouse (or other equivalent input device) o USB connector * Operation is not guaranteed on the following operating systems. o Computers with Windows Me/98 upgraded from Windows 95/3.1 o Computers with Windows 2000 upgraded from Windows 95/NT * Does not operate on Windows 95/3.1, or Windows NT. * For Windows 2000, supports only Windows 2000 Professional. * May not operate correctly depending on device configuration. * Operation is not guaranteed if the above conditions are satisfied but the upgraded OS is not guaranteed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. FAQ about USB ------------------------------------------ The following questions and answers include some of the inquiries most frequently received from customers. - Functions Q1: What can you do with USB cables? A1: o With a USB-compatible digital camera as a removable disk drive, data can be transferred in either direction between the computer and camera. o Images recorded with USB-compatible digital cameras can be loaded automatically or manually. - Troubleshooting Q2: I cannot install the USB driver onto a computer with Windows 98 installed. I tried connecting the digital camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable for the second time, but this time "Add New Hardware Wizard" did not start. A2: If the incorrect location was specified for searching, the "Failed to install a USB driver" message appears on the screen. If you click [Finish] here, the device may be registered as an "unidentified device" or a completely different driver may be installed. In this case, "Add New Hardware Wizard" may not launch even when the digital camera is connected to the computer via the USB cable. If the installation process fails or is cancelled midway, do not click the [Finish] button, but click the [Cancel] button. If the "Add New Hardware Wizard" message does not appear after connecting the digital camera to the computer, reinstall the driver after deleting the "unidentified device" following the procedure described below. <Important> When changing the settings on the computer, always store the original settings so that they can be restored later if the need arises. If incorrect settings are entered, the computer may not start properly or programs and drivers may not operate correctly. Consult the manual provided with the computer before changing the settings. If you still have questions even after reading the manual, contact the computer manufacturer. 1) Connect the digital camera to a computer with the supplied USB cable. 2) Switch on the digital camera. 3) Select [Settings] from the Start menu, and click [Control Panel]-> [System] -> [Device Manager]. Select [View divices by type] and delete [Other Devices] from the list. 4) After deleting the [Other Devices], restart the computer and reinstall the USB driver. * If you cannot find the "Other Devices" in the list, move the registry as follows. [Here "C" refers to the hard disk drive on the Windows 98 operating system.] 1) Create a "CASIO" folder in the C:\windows\temp folder. 2) Select the "Regedit.exe" file in C:\windows, click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" ->"Enum"->"USB" and move the "VID_07CF&PID_1001" file in the "USB" folder to the "CASIO" folder created in step 1). 3) After moving, restart the computer and reinstall the USB driver. * Procedure to move the "VID_07CF&PID_1001" file to the "CASIO" folder 1) With the "VID_07CF&PID_1001" file highlighted, click [Registry]->[Export Registry File...] on the menu bar, and specify the "CASIO" folder created in step 1) above as the location in which to save. 2) Type the name of the file to be saved (for example, "USB"), and click [Save]. 3) Confirm that a new file (for example, "USB.REG") has been added to the C:\windows\temp\CASIO folder. 4) Delete the "VID_07CF&PID_1001" file in "Regedit.exe". Q3: I installed the USB driver correctly, but it does not operate properly, or when unplugging the USB, an exception error message appears and the USB can no longer be used. A3: If a virus scan program (such as McAfeeVShield, etc.) is resident in the system, you can try canceling the resident. It may restore the USB operation. Q4: I followed each installation instruction step carefully, but I still cannot install the USB driver. A4: For some computers with a dedicated utility or when entering the USB settings via BIOS, the USB may be set to off or disabled, and consequently the installation process cannot be started. In this case, changing the USB setting to on or enabled before installing. Refer to the computer manual, as the method for confirming and changing the settings in the dedicated utility or BIOS will vary depending on the computer. If the problem still remains after reading the manual, contact the computer manufacturer. Q5: Other USB devices operate correctly, but the system does not recognize the CASIO digital camera connected to it with the USB cable. A5: Even when all the PC system requirements meet the specifications, other USB devices operate properly, and there are no apparent problems with the camera, USB cable or USB driver, the system may not recognize the digital camera due to incompatibility with the computer chipset in certain rare cases. CASIO digital cameras are manufactured to be compatible with a wide range of USB-standard products, and so no adjustments are possible with the camera. If the computer is equipped with a PC card slot, you may buy a PC card adaptor (CA-10) and load images directly by inserting the compact flash card into it. For computers without a PC card slot, use CF Card readers. Q6: The USB no longer operates after upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows Me. A6: If the USB does not operate after upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows Me, reinstall as follows. 1) Switch on the camera, and connect it to the computer with the supplied USB cable. 2) Click the [Start] button and select [Settings]->[Control Panel]->[System] ->[Device Manager] tab. Select [View devices by type], search for "Universal Serial Bus controllers" in the list, and delete "USB-CASIODIGITALCAMERA". 3) Unplug the USB cable from the digital camera terminal. 4) The USB driver is automatically installed when the USB cable is plugged into the digital camera terminal again. 5) After installation is complete, click the "My Computer" icon to confirm that there is a "Removable Disk Drive" icon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Copyright (C) 2001, CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD.
