4. Q & A

Q: PictureMate makes noise after photo cartridge installation. Is this sound normal?

A: The first time you install the photo cartridge, the printer must charge its print head for about three minutes. Wait until charging finishes before you turn off the printer, or it may charge improperly and use more ink the next time you turn it on. Your PictureMate makes noise when you turn it on or after it has been sitting for awhile. Your printer is performing routine maintenance.

Q: PictureMate sounds as though it is printing, but nothing prints. What can I do to correct this?

A: Please try the following:

- Make sure the print head nozzles are not clogged. To clean the print head, please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

- PictureMate won't work properly if it's tilted or at an angle. Place it on a flat, stable surface that extends beyond the printer base in all directions.

- Make sure paper is not jammed and is loaded correctly so it can feed into the printer. Make sure the printer handle is not resting on the paper. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

Q: I am having Memory Card Problems. What do I do?

- If you have different kinds of memory cards, make sure only one card is inserted at a time.

- Make sure the card contains no more than 999 photos (or the last photos won't print), and that the photos are in JPEG or Uncompressed Tiff format and taken with a DCF-compliant camera.

Photo Quality Problems:

Q: Thin lines don't print, or the print quality is poor. What can I do to correct this?

A: Please try the following:

- The print head nozzles may need cleaning. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

- Make sure the glossy side of the paper is face up.

- The ink cartridges may need replacing. To replace an ink cartridge, please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

- The print head may need aligning. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

Q: Your printout is blurry or smeared. What can I do to correct this?

A: Please try the following:

- Use the PictureMate Print Pack paper to ensure proper saturation, absorption of ink, and quality.

- Make sure you load paper with the glossy side face up.

- Make sure your paper isn't damp or curled, or loaded face down (the glossy side should be face up). If it's damp or curled, load a new stack of paper.

- The print head may need aligning. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

Q: Your printout is faint or has gaps in the image. What can I do to correct this?

A: Please try the following:

- The print head nozzles may need cleaning; please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

- The photo cartridge may be old or low on ink. To replace the photo cartridge, see page 29 in your Printer Basics manual.

- Make sure your paper isn't damaged, old, dirty, or loaded face down. If it is, reload a new stack of paper with the glossy side up.

Q: You see wrong or missing colors. What can I do to correct this?

A: Please try the following:

- Make sure the Color Effects setting is set to Color for color photos. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

- The print head nozzles may need cleaning; please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

- The photo cartridge may be old or low on ink. To replace the cartridge, please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

- Try turning on or off Enhance or Fix under the Auto Correct setting. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

Problems with Paper Feeding:

Q: Paper doesn't eject fully or is wrinkled. What could be causing this?

A: If it's wrinkled when it ejects, the paper may be damp or too thin.

Q: Paper doesn't feed correctly or jams in the printer. What can I do to correct this?

A: Please try the following:

- Make sure the paper support extension is pulled up and the printer handle is not resting on the paper. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

- If paper doesn't feed, remove it from the sheet feeder, reload it against the right edge, then slide the left edge guide against the paper.

- If multiple pages feed at once, remove the paper from the sheet feeder, fan the edges to separate the sheets, and carefully reload it.

- If paper jams, remove paper, then press OK to clear the jam.

- Load paper glossy side up. Load up to a maximum of 20 sheets. Fan the stack of paper when loading multiple sheets. Place the paper against the right edge and slide the left edge guide against it, but not too tight.

- Make sure you are using a supported paper type (please refer to your Printer Basics manual). Store paper flat to prevent curling.

Miscellaneous Problems:

Q: The printer prints blank pages. What do I do?

A: The print head may need cleaning. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

Q: The borders or layout are incorrect. What do I do?

A: Please try the following:

- Check your Layout setting to see if it is set to the correct setting. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

- Make sure the paper is positioned correctly in the feeder, all the way to the right. Slide the edge guide against the paper.

- Make sure the Crop setting is set to None. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

Q: The wrong photo is printed. What can I do to correct this?

A:	The photo numbering in the printer may not match the numbering in your camera. First print a proof sheet to identify your photos by number.

Q: Too many copies are printing. What do I do?

A: Make sure that the Copies option is not set for multiple copies. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

Q: How many cleaning cycles should I do if the print quality is not acceptable?

A: You should not do more than 3 or 4 cleaning cycles if the printout quality is not improving. Please refer to your Printer Basics manual for further instructions.

Q: What paper sizes are available for my PictureMate?

A: PictureMate was optimized for 4x6 size paper for best results.

Q: How do I do a reset to get back all of my original settings?

A: With the printer powered on hold down the Cancel button for about 5 seconds. There will be a message stating all settings have been reset.
