(A) PRIMARY INSTALLATION (NT NETWORKING NOT INSTALLED OR NETWORK CARD NOT PRESENTLY INSTALLED) If you've already installed Microsoft's NT Networking, another card or loaded another driver, refer to the procedure titled "NT Networking already installed, older driver or card previously loaded." NOTE: If you experience any problems during driver installation, you may choose to run SETUP.EXE to test the card. SETUP will not run in a Windows NT DOS window. You must boot from DOS to test the card. 1. Complete the Windows NT installation without an SMC network card installed in your PC. Have the SMC Driver Diskette and Windows NT installation files (on CD or hard drive) available. When prompted with a window asking about "Participating on a network," change the default to "Do not connect this computer to a network at this time." Click "Next" and follow the prompts to reboot. 2. Install the SMC network card and start Windows NT. 3. Double-click the "My Computer," "Control Panel," and "Network" icons. The "Network Configuration" window appears, prompting you to install Windows NT networking. Select "Yes." Windows NT invokes the "Network Setup Wizard." Click on "Next." 4. When prompted to "Search for a Network Adapter," click on "Select from List." Do not select "Start Search." 5. When prompted to "Select a Network Adapter," click on "Have Disk." When prompted, insert the SMC Driver Diskette and click "OK." 6. When the "Select OEM Option" window appears, highlight "SMC EZ CARD PCI 10 ADAPTER" (or appropriate) and click "OK." 7. When prompted to start searching for a network card, click on "Next." 8. Select "Network Protocols" when prompted and click "Next." When prompted for Windows NT files, type the path to your Windows NT files on CD-ROM (e.g., D:\WINNT), or change the path to those files on your hard drive and click "OK." 10. Click on "Next" and then click "Next" again when prompted to "Start the Network." 11. Enter the "Workgroup" or "Domain" names (optional) when prompted and click on "Next." 12. Select "Finish" when prompted and click on "Yes" when prompted to reboot. Remove the Driver Diskette. FOR FURTHER CUSTOMIZATION You can modify card settings via the "Network" applet. Install additional protocols and network components by selecting the appropriate folder (e.g., Customizing Protocols, Services, Identification, or Bindings). (B) NT NETWORKING ALREADY INSTALLED (OLDER DRIVER OR CARD PREVIOUSLY LOADED) Follow this procedure to replace Windows NT driver files with the latest SMC driver files. By removing driver files, you will lose network settings. Make sure you have a record of settings, such as IP address, workgroup name, etc. Check with your network administrator for complete information. NOTE: If you experience any problems during driver installation, you may choose to run SETUP.EXE to test the card. SETUP will not run in a Windows NT DOS window. You must boot from DOS to test the card. Steps one through four are optional. These steps are used to remove a card that has already been installed. 1. Install the SMC network card (if not already installed), attach your network cable, and boot into Windows NT. 2. Double-click the "My Computer," "Control Panel," and "Network" icons. From the "Network" window, select the "Adapter" tab. 3. Highlight the network driver you wish to remove and click "Remove." (You may choose to record the network card settings for future reference.
