EtherFast 10/100 PC Card Setup for SystemSoft PCMCIA Socket & Card Services ----------------------------------------------------------------- Before You Begin Setup Technical Support Before You Begin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for choosing the EtherFast 10/100 PC Card from Linksys. Before attempting to install the card, we highly recommend that you read the User Guide that came with your card. The instructions below explain how to get SystemSoft's PCMCIA socket & card services up and running with the EtherFast Card. Setup ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CardSoft's SystemSoft services work by maintaining a library of PCMCIA cards that you use. The library contains information that tells SystemSoft how to initialize your cards for use each time your computer is started. In order to use Cardsoft with the EtherFast card, you'll need to add the EtherFast's setup information to CardSoft's library of compatible PCMCIA cards. A card library (.CLB) file has been included on the EtherFast driver disk just for this purpose. After telling Cardsoft where the CLB file is located, Cardsoft will be able to instantly recognize and initialize the EtherFast card every time you plug it into your PC. First, copy the linksys.clb file from the PCMCIA\CARDSOFT directory on the EtherFast disk to the directory on your hard disk where your CardSoft files are located. You can copy the file from either DOS or Windows. If your CardSoft files are located under a directory called CARDSOFT, for example, you could copy the file at the DOS prompt by typing: copy a:\pcmcia\cardsoft\linksys.clb c:\CARDSOFT Next: 1. Locate the directory or folder on your hard drive where your CardSoft files are located. In most systems, the files are located in C:\CARDSOFT, C:\CARDWIZ, or C:\CPQDOS. 2. Locate the file in the above directory called CARDID.INI. It should be located in the same directory where your CardSoft files are located. 3. Load the CARDID.INI file into your favorite text editor or word processor for editing. 4. Scroll through the file until you come to the section labeled [Common]. 5. Find the LAN1IRQ statement. Set the LAN1IRQ value to the IRQ that you plan to use. 3, 5, 10, and 11 are good values to try, depending on your PC's configuration. Example: LAN1IRQ=5 6. Find the LAN1Port statement. This is the I/O memory base setting that the EtherFast Card's network interface will use. Choose an I/O value and enter it. 300, 320, or 340 are all good values to try. Example: LAN1Port=300 7. Locate the Lan1MemoryBase1 and Lan1MemoryBase2 statements. Set both of these equal to zero. Example: Lan1MemoryBase1=0 8. Scroll down further in the file until you come to the [Libraries] section. 9. Insert the following line immediately after the [Libraries] heading: CardLib=LINKSYS.CLB 10. Save the CARDID.INI file. The socket & card services setup is complete. Make sure that the EtherFast Card is plugged in, then restart your computer. Once the computer has started up, you should hear a "positive" CardSoft beep indicating that the card has been recognized. Proceed with the installation of your network driver now. If you received an error message, or a message stating that the EtherFast Card was not installed recognized by the services, you might need to change the card's I/O or IRQ port settings.
