  BEFORE YOU BEGIN
  --------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your computer does NOT have a plug-and-play motherboard,
the following notes apply to you:

  1. Before attempting to install the Ether16 LAN Card's network
software drivers, you MUST configure the card's internal
settings with the SETUP program included on Ether16 disk 1
under the UTILITY directory. Use the program to set the
card's interrupt (IRQ) and I/O settings. For directions
on using SETUP, see your Ether16 user guide.

  2. Most network software packages like Windows 95, Windows NT,
Novell NetWare, etc., include a "generic" network driver
that will work with a wide range of network cards. This
generic driver is called a "Novell NE2000" compatible driver,
and it is fully supported by the Ether16 card. If your
network software package asks you to choose the name of
the network card you're installing from a list of available
adapters, and you find "NE2000" or "Novell NE2000" listed,
you don't need to follow the directions below---simply choose
to install the NE2000 driver and the Ether16 Card will be
ready for use. THE ETHER16 IS ONLY NE2000 COMPATIBLE
WHEN THE CARD'S PLUG-AND-PLAY MODE IS TURNED OFF. If
your PC has a plug-and-play motherboard, and you wish to
use the generic NE2000 driver, you must run the Ether16
SETUP program and turn the card's plug-and-play mode off.

  Setup
  -----------------------------------------------------------------

The Turbo driver is a re-tuned set of drivers that allows
throughput up 80% higher than normal. This driver takes advantage of
a special feature in your cards and the Netware 3.11 network
operating system. This implementation does require all workstations
and servers to use vendor adapters that have "Turbo" drivers.
Furthermore only Netware 3.11 or 3.12 file servers that have their
workstations using NETX for the shell should be used.

Do not use these drivers with VLMs or Netware 4.x because of
instabilities will develop. We recommend that a site test this
driver before production LAN use was implemented.

This installation assumes that the adapter is working properly.
Please consult \SETUP\README.TXT for help with setup of the adapter.
Getting Started will describe the installation instructions.

 Requirements
 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ
     An ISA compatible computer
An ODI compatible network operating system
     A Ether16 Ethernet Adapter
A knowledge of basic DOS commands and editing text files

 Getting Started
 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ
The Turbo Driver implements the same format used by ODI drivers,
thus it is also considered as an ODI driver.

 Manual Installation
 ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ
Copy the ETHER.COM from the appropriate
      NETWARE\TURBO\ sub-directory
of Ether16 disk 1 to the PC's Netware client
      directory containing Novell's
      LSL.COM, IPXODI.COM and NETx.COM files. If
you're unsure of which drivers to use,
choose the files located in the
      NETWARE\TURBO\ODI-DOS directory.

Follow Novell's instructions on using ODI programs. You can substitute
the ETHER.COM whenever a reference is made to the Hardware Specific
      Module.

A typical ODI workstation startup batch file might include:

        >LSL ; Link Support Layer Module provided by Novell
        >ETHER.COM ; Hardware Specific Turbo Module
        >IPXODI ; IPX Protocol Stack Module provided by Novell
        >NETX ; DOS Shell Support Module provided by Novell
        >LOGIN

NOTE: The ETHER.LAN file MUST be loaded on the server
in order to use the Turbo Driver.
