Windows 98 installation You will need the diskette packaged with the NetLINE PCI card as well as Windows 98 CD or .cab files. Make sure Windows 98 is correctly installed before you begin installation. See the NetLINE user guide for instructions on installing the PCI card into the PCI card slot. Make absolutely sure the card is seated all the way into the PCI slot, and no gold pins are showing in the top of the slot. After installing the card, restart the computer. 1. Windows Plug and Play will locate the PCI card and display the Add New Hardware Wizard. It will list the card as a Realtek 8029 PCI Card or PCI Ethernet Controller. 2. Select the Next button. Two options are presented: - "Search for the best driver for your device" (recommended). - "Select an alternate driver". (This installation option is not supported by the NetLINE PCI card.) 3. Select "Search for the best driver for your device" and then select Next. 4. Windows now needs to locate the driver. The screen will present four possible locations for the driver. Select the Floppy disk drive, A:\ (or A:\Win98). 5. Insert the NetLINE diskette into the floppy drive and click the Next button. 6. Windows will read the .inf file on the floppy, which tells Windows the name of the card and the location of the driver file, rtl8029.sys. When installing from the Farallon diskette. the card is listed as a NetLINE PCI Card. Windows will start to install the necessary files. 7. You will be prompted for the Windows 98 CD or .cab files if they are not already in the default windows location on the hard drive. Windows needs to install files that pertain to the protocols the NetLINE card driver will use. Enter the proper location for the Windows 98 CD or .cab files on the hard drive. 8. The last screen tells you Windows has finished installing the software needed by the card. Click the Finish button and restart the computer.
