---------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Introduction
EpsonNet Direct Print Ver.2.3 runs on Windows 98, 95, 2000, Me and NT 4.0. Unless a specific version of Windows is mentioned, the information contained in this file applies to all versions of Windows.

2. Limitations

2-1. Length of printer port name
There is a limitation of the length of the printer port name which can be recognized by some printer drivers. If the length of the printer port name causes errors to occur, follow the troubleshooting advice in section 3-6.

2-2. Port settings (Windows 98/95/Me only)
After adding a printer in the \\Epson_lpr port for EpsonNet Direct print and clicking OK, the message, "There is nothing to configure for this port." appears in the EPSON LPR Port Settings window.

The solution to this problem is currently being worked on.

2-3. Port settings (Windows 2000 only)
The "add port", "delete port", the "configure port..." buttons are disabled. This problem occurs with Windows 2000 networked printers that have "\\" as the first two characters of the printer port name.

  To solve this problem, follow the steps below;

  1. Double-click "My Network Places".
  2. Click "EpsonPeripheralNetwork".
  3. Right click the target printer.
  4. The "EPSON LPR Port Settings" window appears with the buttons enabled.

2-4. The "EPSON LPR Port Settings" window will take a long time to appear if the printer added in "\\Epson_lpr" is not connected.

2-5. Large numbers of print jobs
When many print jobs are sent to the same printer at once, it takes a long time to process all of them. In this situation, if a "Write Error" message appears for your printer, cancel all print jobs, wait for a while, then try printing again.

2-6. Print job management
1)About printers which support print job management
Only EPSON printers which support print job management can manage print jobs in a printer.
All other EPSON printers requires a host PC to manage print jobs.
When sending a job to a printer which supports print job management, the job remains visible in the print queue until printing is completed. When sending a job to a printer which does not support print job management, the job will disappear from the print queue before printing is completed.

   2)About Job Status
The status of a print job sent to an EPSON printer which does not support print job management progresses in the following order.

Start Printing -> Spooling or sending a job -> Sending a job

The status of a print job sent to an EPSON printer which supports print job management progresses in the following order.

Start Printing -> Spooling or sending a job -> Sending a job -> Waiting
-> Printing data -> Printing complete

Please note that not all of the messages indicated above may appear in the print queue if the queue does not refresh frequently.EpsonNet Direct Print Ver.2.1 refreshes print job information in the above order, but because the refresh rate is not the same as the print queue, not all messages may appear.

   3)About status sheets
Because the information for status sheets is provided by the printer, a status sheet will disappear from the print queue after 60 seconds, regardless of whether printing has been completed or not. If EpsonNet Direct Print Ver.2.1 cannot detect a print job for more than 60 seconds, the job information is removed and the job entry will disappear from the print queue.

   4)About deleting print jobs
If the target printer does not support print job management, print jobs can only be deleted when the data is on the host PC or is being sent to the printer. If the target printer supports print job management, print jobs can also be deleted while they are being printed.
If a job is deleted while a job data is being sent to the printer, the data which was sent before deleting is printed. In this case, garbled characters and other data problems may occur.
If a delete print job request is sent after the job can be deleted from the print queue, the document will be printed.

3. Troubleshooting

If you experience problems, check the following troubleshooting
    tips to find a solution.

3-1. Be sure to restart your PC after installing or uninstalling EpsonNet Direct Print.

3-2. If you are installing on Windows 2000 or NT 4.0, be sure that you have administrator priviledges.

3-3. When an anti-virus program is running, EPSON Status Monitor 2
     cannot be installed.

     (Solution)
Turn off all anti-virus programs before installing EPSON Status
     Monitor 2.

3-4. When uninstalling, a setup initialization error occurs.

     (Solution)
Turn off all anti-virus programs before uninstalling EPSON Status
     Monitor 2.

3-5. Cannot uninstall "EBPrinter" with the "EPSON Printer Utility Uninstall" program.

     (Solution)
Clear the checkmark next to "EBPrinter" in the "Utility" menu in the
     "EPSON Printer Utility Uninstall" program.

3-6. An error occurs when you print to an EPSON LPR Printer.

     (Solution)
Choose a shorter name in the "Print to" box in the Details menu
of the printer properties. For example:

     Old name:
      \\EPSON_LPR\123.123.123.123(EPL-N2000)

     New name:
      \\EPSON_LPR\123.123.123.123

3-7. (For Windows 2000 users only) If you send multiple large print jobs to the printer when it is not ready yet, the printer may become unable to print. (The printer is said to be not ready if it is offline, has no paper, or has other errors.) .

(Symptom)
With the printer spool screen showing the "Spooling or sending a job" message, even when the printer is ready, printing may not be possible. Also, subsequent print jobs may not be possible either.

(Solution)
Reboot the system. Always make sure the printer is ready before doing a large print job.
