Overview

This file contains an updated version of GoBack that resolves the situation in which, after Daylight Savings time begins, "Please Wait" appears on the GoBack startup screen and the computer stops responding.


Identification

1.  Install this file if the computer has previously stopped responding on a "Please Wait" GoBack startup screen after a Daylight Savings time change.

2.  Install this file to prevent the computer from stopping to respond on a "Please Wait" GoBack startup screen after a Daylight Savings time change.

3.  Supported operating systems include Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, and Windows Me.


Installation

1.  Close all open windows, except this readme.txt file if instructions are needed.

2.  If you have not already done so, locate and double-click the 9513025.exe file that you downloaded from the Internet.  This file should be located on your desktop.  Files are extracted to the C:\Cabs\9513025 folder.

3.  Place the Restoration CD or Application CD containing Gateway GoBack in the appropriate drive, and then close all windows that are open.

4.  From the Start menu, click Run.  In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\9513025\GoBackPatch.exe.  Click OK.

5.  In the GoBack Setup dialog box, when prompted to read the readme file, click No.

6.  In the GoBack Setup dialog box, to remove the currently installed GoBack and restart the computer, click OK. 

7.  The GoBackUpdate dialog box opens, and the computer automatically restarts.
 
Note: If the computer attempts to start to the System Restoration CD, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE on the keyboard, and then remove the CD.  After the GoBack Uninstall dialog box opens, reinsert the CD.

8.  The earlier version of GoBack is removed, and then the computer starts into Windows.

9.  In the GoBack Setup Wizard - Welcome dialog box, select Yes, I agree with the terms of the agreement, and then click Next. 

Note: If prompted to insert the original GoBack CD into the CD/DVD drive, insert the Restoration CD or Application CD that Gateway GoBack came on, and then click OK.

10.  In the GoBack Setup Wizard - Registration dialog box, complete the requested information, and then click Next. 

11.  In the GoBack Setup Wizard - Installation Type dialog box, select Easy Install, and then click Next. 

12.  In the GoBack Setup Wizard - Summary dialog box, click Finish. 

13.  The software installs, and creates a data file on your hard drive.  This takes several minutes to complete.

14.  In the GoBack Setup dialog box, to have a GoBack shortcut placed on the desktop, click Yes. 

15.  In the GoBack Setup dialog box, to restart your computer, click OK.


Removal

Note:  The following procedure completely removes Gateway GoBack not just the downloaded patch.

1.  Close all open programs.

2.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

3.  In Control Panel, click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

4.  In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, from the list of programs, select GoBack, and then click Add/Remove.  

5.  In the GoBack Setup dialog box, to remove GoBack and restart the computer, click OK.

6.  During the restarting process, a GoBack Uninstall dialog box appears.  Please wait.

8.  The Removing GoBack dialog box monitors the progress as GoBack history is removed from the hard drive.
 
9.  In the GoBack Setup dialog box, to complete the removal, click OK.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty installing this file, perform the following troubleshooting steps. 

1.  Review the preceding software installation procedure.  Verify that you did not miss any of the steps. 

2.  Verify that your operating system is Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, or Windows Me, as this file is only functional in these operating systems.

3.  If you still have difficulties installing this file, download the file again, and then ensure that all instructions in this document are followed.


Reason for Update

This file is used to help resolve the problem where "Please Wait" Appears on the GoBack startup screen and the computer stops responding.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
