* 1.  OVERVIEW
****************************************************************************
The SMSC IrCC Software Installation Utility installs to the target system
a Windows* INF file and a smcirda.sys file which outline to the operating
system how the IrCC components will be configured.

This is needed for the proper functioning of the following features:

   - IrDA Ver 1.1 Wireless Infrared Technology Support
   - Correct Configuration of SMSC IrCC components
   - Correct Identification of SMSC IrCC Components in
     Device Manager

This distribution also includes the driver files (*.SYS and *.INF) for
each operating system. They may be used to install the driver by way of
the Device Manager if desired or required.

The driver binary itself is language neutral. This Setup supports the
following languages:

Basque, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Croatian,
Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French (Canadian), French (Standard),
German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian,
Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Portuguese (Standard), Russian, Slovak,
Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish

****************************************************************************
* 2.  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
****************************************************************************
1. The software included with this distribution package is
     designed to operate only with SMSC IrCC devices.

2. The following are the only operating systems supported
    in this release of the Installation Utility:

    Windows Version SMSC IrCC Driver Version
    -----------------------------   ------------------------
    Windows XP                      V5.1.3600.5
    Windows 2000                    V5.1.3600.5

    To verify which operating system has been installed onto
    the target system, follow the steps below:

    a.  Click on Start.
    b.  Select Settings.
    c.  Select Control Panel.
    d. Double-click on the System icon.
    e. Click on the General system properties tab.
    f. Verify which OS has been installed by reading
        the System information.

3. The software should be installed on systems with at
    least the amount of system memory recommended by Microsoft
    for the operating system.

    Please check with your system provider to determine which
    operating system, and if SMSC IrCC is installed in your system.

****************************************************************************
* 3.  INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
****************************************************************************

1. Check the System Requirements. The operating system must be fully
    installed and running on the system before running this software.

2. Look for "SMSC IrCC ..." in the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control
    Panel. If an old one is there, remove it first.

3. Close any running applications. Otherwise, you may experience
    difficulties.

4. Run the InstallShield installation program SETUP.EXE, located in the
    Installation Utility disk, from the Start\Run prompt.

5. Setup.exe will install the SMSC Ircc INF files, and System
    files to your hard drive.

6. This completes the Software Installation Utility for SMSC IrCC Miniport
    Device Driver Version 5.1.3600.5 SP2.

****************************************************************************
* 4.  UNINSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
****************************************************************************

1. Close any running applications. Otherwise, you may experience
    difficulties.

2. Run the Add/Remove Programs applet from the Control Panel.

3. From the list of programs, select "SMSC IrCC V5.1.3600.5 SP2".

4. Click "Change/Remove" button to begin uninstalling the driver. Follow
    the prompts to complete the uninstall process.

5. This procedure will restore the previous version of the IrCC driver.

Note: Uninstalling the driver on a system with PNP ID other than SMCF010 will
require reboot. Upon rebooting, the system may prompt for the location of the
deleted driver. This is because there is no out of the box support for the
PNP ID by the operating systems.
