OPTi 82c93x Windows NT Audio Driver LATEST INFORMATION (Version 1.04) 12/05/96 This is the OPTi 82c930, 82c931 audio driver release for Windows NT version 3.51/4.00. Throughout this readme file, 82c93x refers to 82c930, and 82c931 (LC, AD, and MB versions). This Windows NT driver provides the following support for OPTi 82c93x- based sound card: Wave playback/capture Midi playback MPU-401 Playback/Record Mic recording Volume control Driver installation/configuration IDE CD-ROM support (Not for 931 AD versions) Gameport control ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows 2000 / Windows XP The hardware will not be detected automatically. You will need to add it manually, choosing a "have disk" option when that choice is available to you through "Add Hardware" in the control panel. It goes without saying that this is not a signed driver. If you don't want to continue with installation at that point, then throw out your sound card -- because there are no released [or planned] drivers either from Opti or M$. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0. What is new in this release This release has the following changes from v1.03: - Default WSS Audio to IRQ 5 instead of 11. - Default WSS DMA out to 1 and DMA in to 0 (full Duplex enable) - Default MPU 401 port address to 330 instead of 300. - Dialog box will not show Single Mode DMA option - Microphone volume out value default to 0 to prevent feedback to Speaker. The following are features and supports in v1.03 that are changed from the previous release v1.01, - 931 LC support - MPU-401 support - Full Duplex DMA support - 16 bit DMA Channels Support (931 MB/LC only) - Gameport ON/OFF control - New Configuration dialog - New MIDIMAP.CFG 1. SOFTWARE PACKAGE CONTENTS The OPTi 82c93x Windows NT Audio Driver installation package contains the following files: OEMSETUP.INF - Windows NT driver installation text file SND93x.DLL - Windows NT user mode driver for OPTi 82c93x. SND93x.SYS - Windows NT kernel mode driver for OPTi 82c93x. SND3INIT.SYS - Windows NT kernel mode driver for setting OPTi 82c93x on-board IDE CD-ROM interface. MIDIMAP.CFG - Midi Mapper for OPTi93x. README.TXT - This help file. 2. INSTALLATION PROCESS The installation process assumes that Windows NT has been installed. Refer to documents for Windows NT installation. Step 1: Insert OPTi 82c93x sound card in the system. Refer to your menu for proper sound card hardware installation. Step 2: Logged on Windows NT in Administrator mode. Windows NT audio driver can't be installed or modified unless Windows NT is started in Adminstrator mode. Step 3: For Windows NT v3.51: Choose Drivers icon from Control Panel. Remove all of the following previously installed audio drivers: Windows Sound System OPTi 82c930 OPTi 82c93x Restart system. For Windows NT v4.00: Choose Multimedia from Control Panel. Click on Devices tab. Click on Audio Devices. Remove all of the following previously installed audio drivers: Audio for Windows Sound System Audio for OPTi 82c930 Audio for OPTi 82c930, 82c93x Restart system. Step 4: For Windows NT v3.51: Start Windows NT in Administrator mode. Choose Drivers icon from Control Panel. Click the Add button in Drivers dialog box. Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver" and click the OK button. Insert the OPTi 82c93x Windows NT installation diskette in floppy drive and click the OK button. Click the OK button in the "Add Unlisted or Updated Driver" box. For Windows NT v4.00: Start Windows NT in Administrator mode. Choose Multimedia from Control Panel. Click on Devices tab. Click the Add Button. Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver" and click the OK button. Insert the OPTi 82c93x Windows NT installation diskette in floppy drive and click the OK button. Click the OK button in the "Add Unlisted or Updated Driver" box. Step 5: A setup dialog box will appear. Configure the Audio, MPU-401, Gameport, CD-ROM, and advanced options. Choose the CD-ROM Interface Settings for selecting whether to enable or disable the on-board IDE CD-ROM interface. Please note OPTi 931 MB/LC version has no IDE CD-ROM support. Choose the OK button to accept the settings. Step 6: Choose the Restart Now button to have the new driver and any changed driver settings to take effect when Windows NT restart. 3. CHANGING DRIVER SETTINGS AFTER INSTALLATION Driver settings can be changed after installation. Step 1: Logged on Windows NT in Administrator mode. Step 2: For Windows NT v3.51: Choose Drivers icon from Control Panel. Select OPTi 82c93x in Installed Drivers Dialog box. Click the Setup button. For Windows NT v4.00: Choose Multimedia from Control Panel. Click on Devices tab. Click on Audio Devices. Click on Audio for OPTi 82c930, 82c93x. Click the Settings button. Follows Step 5 and 6 of INSTALLATION PROCESS above. 4. INSTALLATION DETAILS The Windows NT driver installation does the following: - Copy files to your hard disk. SND93x.SYS, SND93x.DLL, SND3INIT.SYS, MIDIMAP.CFG and README.NT are copied to the NT system directories. - Create/Update configuration information in the registry The following two Keys are created in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services path: snd93x snd3init - Reboot system. 5. CD-ROM INSTALLATION NOTES Please note that OPTi 82c931 MB/LC versions have no IDE CD-ROM support. OPTi 82c931 AD version has IDE CD-ROM support. The CD-ROM Interface Settings in driver setup provides the choice of enable or disable the 82c93x on board IDE CD-ROM interface (Default to disabled). It DOESN'T install the NT IDE CD-ROM driver. It's your responsibility to install the NT IDE-CD ROM driver. To install an IDE CD-ROM drive that is connected to 82c93x: - Make sure there is no secondary IDE port that is enabled on your system motherboard or another add-on card. - Choose "Enable IDE CD-ROM Interface" check box. This instructs the kernel mode driver sndinit.sys to enable the 82c93x on board secondary IDE port 170h and IRQ15 upon NT boot time. - To install the Windows NT IDE CD-ROM driver (ATAPI.SYS), please refer to the Windows NT System Guide. 6. FULL DUPLEX DMA SUPPORT Click on "Enable Full Duplex" check box and select the DMA Playback and record channels to enable simultaneous Playback and Capture on different DMA channels. Full Duplex DMA on 82c930 and 82c931 only supports playback and capture of the wave audio with same audio format. For example, a PCM 22.050 kHz, 8 bit, Mono wave audio stream is allowed to record to a a PCM 22.050 kHz, 8 bit, Mono wave audio stream not any other audio format. 7. 16-bit DMA SUPPORT 16-bit DMA is supported only in 931 LC or MB versions. DMA channels 5 and 6 are both 16-bit DMA channels. Both Playback and Capture DMA channels can be configured using these 16-bit DMA channels. 8. MPU-401 SUPPORT Click on "Enable MPU-401" check box and configure MPU-401 I/O and IRQ. To select between "OPTi FM" and "OPTi MPU-401" for MIDI files. For Windows NT v3.51: Use Midimapper from Control Panel For Windows NT v4.00: Use MIDI tab in Multimedia from Control Panel 9. MIXER CONTROL - Before changing driver settings from Control Panel, be sure to close the audio Mixer Volume Control. - For 82c930: Midi mixer line controls both FM Synthesizer and MPU-401 volume. For 82c931: Midi mixer line controls FM Synthesizer Wavetable/MPU-401 line controls MPU-401 volume.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
