ReadmeETV.txt Driver File Contents (Etv2700.zip)

This folder contain drivers for the Olivetti ETV 2700 Word Processor.

I have not used my Olivetti ETV 2700 for some time. To get it working was such a pain as it was difficult to get hold of the boot files, system drivers and program files. I thought it was most irresponsible of the manufacturer to not support their old products such as the ETV 2700.

I hope this can be helpful to those of you out there who do not have access to the drivers for this device. I have just zipped the complete contents of the boot and program disk.
There is a bit of work to do in order for it to function with the Olivetti ETV 2700.

............................
Complications arise because
1. Keyboard and Daisywheel preset file (this version is set for South African Keyboard and 024 Daisywheel)// can be changed to GBR (British)
Keyboard and Daisywheel set 016

2. Diskette only operate if in the 720 KB format

3. The ETV 2700 hardware only works with MSDos 3 or lower
............................

A part of the Problem in making a boot disk is that the Olivetti ETV 2700 has two floppy disk drives 'A' and 'B' - both set at 720 KB capacity. The fact that the 720 KB capacity Stiffy diskettes are almost impossible to get hold of makes it difficult to proceed.

If you cannot get hold of a 720 KB stiffy then you can use a 1.44 KB Stiffy diskette - as long as the open hole at the bottom left corner is blocked with some tape.

   |O_____________O|
 Format         Write Protect tab
 Size tab

///^blocked = 720KB ///Open = 1.44 MB

This will fool the disk drive as an open tab indicates that a 1.44 MB diskette has been inserted and a closed tab indicates that a 720 MB diskette has been inserted. Once you have closed the left tab on a new blank diskette - it should be formatted to 720 KB capacity: Use the Dos shell - at the Prompt type format a: /f:720

As so C:> format a: /F:720

Provided that a: is the drive that the diskette is in.

A second part of the problem is the boot system. The ETV 2700 hardware cannot operate on MSDOS 5, which is what you will get if you make a Systems disk from Windows 95 or 98. Therefore a boot disk disk will have to be made from MSDOS 3 or lower... I am not sure how low or if any other versions of dos such as freeDos or open dos can substitute.
/// an experiment will indicate///

Extract the files from this file onto the boot disk and attempt to boot.

The Key-Board and Daisy-wheel settings are kept in the 'Tap_naz.bin' file. In this folder the Tap_naz.bin file supports the South African Keyboard and 024 Daisywheel. In the same folder is a 'Tap_naX.bin' file
- this file supports the British Keyboard and Daisywheel 016. To use this file first change the lame of Tap_naz.bin to something else - make it easy so that you can remember it. then change the name of 'Tap_naX.bin' to 'Tap_naz.bin' . The machine will boot to 016 specifications.

good luck... hopefully I shall be able to make a better disk making system in the next few weeks..
