* 1.  OVERVIEW
****************************************************************************
The SMSC IrCC Software Installation Utility installs to the target system
a Windows* INF file and a smcirda.sys file which outline to the operating 
system how the IrCC components will be configured. 

This is needed for the proper functioning of the following features:

   - IrDA Ver 1.1 Wireless Infrared Technology Support
   - Correct Configuration of SMSC IrCC components
   - Correct Identification of SMSC IrCC Components in 
     Device Manager

* 2.  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS 
****************************************************************************
1.  The software included with this distribution package is designed to
    operate only with SMSC IrCC devices. This distribution is designed to
    update systems running versions of the driver supplied by the operating
    system. The Windows native drivers are the following:

    Windows Version                 Native SMSC IrCC Driver Version
    -----------------------------   -------------------------------
    Windows XP                      V5.1.2250.2
    Windows 2000                    V4.10.1999.2
    Windows ME                      V4.10.1999.2

    If a other than the version of the driver indicated above is running,
    please uninstall it and return the system to running the native driver
    before installing the driver included this distribution.
              
2.  The following are the only operating systems supported
    in this release of the Installation Utility:
                                 
    Windows Version                 SMSC IrCC Driver Version
    -----------------------------   ------------------------
    Windows XP                      V5.1.3600.3
    Windows 2000                    V5.1.3600.3
    Windows ME                      V5.1.3600.3

    To verify which operating system has been installed onto 
    the target system, follow the steps below:

    a.  Click on Start.
    b.  Select Settings.
    c.  Select Control Panel.
    d.  Double-click on the System icon.
    e.  Click on the General system properties tab.
    f.  Verify which OS has been installed by reading
         the System information.
                              
3.  The software should be installed on systems with at
    least 64 MB of system memory.

    Please check with your system provider to determine which 
    operating system, and if SMSC IrCC is installed in your system.

* 3.  INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE 
****************************************************************************

1.  Check the System Requirements. The operating system must be fully
    installed and running on the system before running this software.

2.  Close any running applications. Otherwise, you may experience 
    difficulties.

3.  Run the InstallShield installation program SETUP.EXE, located in the
    Installation Utility disk, from the Start\Run prompt.

3a. Silent install under Windows XP and Windows 2000:

            setup -S -F1.\setup2k.iss

3b. Silent install under Windows ME:

            setup -S -F1.\setupme.iss

4.  Setup.exe will install the SMSC Ircc INF files, and System
    files to your hard drive.
    
5.  This completes the Software Installation Utility for SMSC IrCC Miniport
    Device Driver Version 5.1.3600.3 SP1.

* 4.  UNINSTALLING THE SOFTWARE 
****************************************************************************

1.  Close any running applications.  Otherwise, you may experience
    difficulties.

2.  Run the Add/Remove Programs applet from the Control Panel.

3.  From the list of programs, select "SMSC IrCC V5.1.3600.3 SP1".

4.  Click "Change/Remove" button to begin uninstalling the driver. Follow
    the prompts to complete the uninstall process.

5.  No reboot will be necessary for Windows XP and Windows 2000. For Windows
    ME, however, the two reboots will be required to complete the uninstall
    process: once on removal of installed driver and once on automatic
    installation of Windows native driver.

6.  This procedure will restore the previous version of the IrCC driver.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
