I have about four of these W83757F IO-controllers, so I was able to determine the following by trail-and-error.


Default jumper settings for an original IO-Controller, with COM1, COM2, LPT1, FDD and HDD Enabled (Plus GamePort) seem to be ;-

JP6 # 1 X:X:X:XX 8

JP8 # 1 X::X::X: 8	JP4 X		KEY: X = Closed Jumper , : = Open Jumper


REGARDING JP6 -

The first 2 jumpers (1&2) on JP6 are for COM-A, leave both open to disable, of close one or the other to set as COM1 or COM3.

The next 2 jumpers (3&4) on JP6 are for COM-B, leave both open to disable, of close one or the other to set as COM2 or COM4.

The following 2 jumpers (5&6) on JP6 are for LPT-C, leave both open to disable, of close one or the other to set as LPT2 or LPT1.

The 7th jumper on JP6 is for enabling/disableing the FDD controller, leave open to disable, of close to enable.

The final (8th) jumper on JP6 is for enabling/disableing the HDD controller, leave open to disable, of close to enable.

SUMMARY of JUMMPERS for JP6 -

COM-A DIS 1,2 ::
COM-A 3F8 1,2 X: = COM1
COM-A 3EF 1,2 :X = COM3

COM-B DIS 3,4 ::
COM-B 2F8 3,4 X: = COM2
COM-B 2EF 3,4 :X = COM4

LPT-C DIS 5,6 ::
LPT-C 378 5,6 X: = LPT1
LPT-C 278 5,6 :X = LPT2

FDD-D DIS 7   :
FDD-D EN  7   X

HDD-E DIS 8   :
HDD-E EN  8   X

NB: under Windows95, the LPT port only shows as a "Printer Port" and never as a "ECP Printer Port" meaning that it is either a simple SPP or enhanced EPP port.  I have tried these cards with Parallel-Port expansion drives such as the Iomega-ZIP100 and they work (suggesting EPP capability).  Typical Flatbed scanners do not use SPP ports, and only use EPP ports or combined ECP/EPP ports.  Try to keep your ECP ports reserved for your bi-directional Printer communication.

REGARDING JP8 -

The next set of jumpers, I can only guess at, I'm afraid.

I beleive that the first set of three jumpers are for setting the IRQ of the COM-A port (Since COM1 and COM3 tend to share the same IRQ4, the default need not be changed), and that similarly the next set of three jumpers are for COM-B (likewise, since COM2 and COM4 tend to share the same IRQ3, the default need not be changed) - although I suppose it is possible to change the jmpers to select IRQ 3,4,5,9 directly if you needed specific IRQ's for each serial-port, but I was unable to determine those combinations.

I also believe that the last two jumpers of the 8 are related to specifying the IRQ of the LPT port (IRQ7 for LPT1 and IRQ5 for LPT2) but I am not sure which way round they are - but if I assume the first (ie; jumper 7) is the default-jumper then it would equate to IRQ7, for the default LPT1-port with the second (ie; jumper 8) equating to IRQ5 for LPT2.

I do not know what the single JP4 jumper is for, but the process of elimination would lead to assume that it en/disables the GamePort.


SUMMARY -

To configure a W83757F IO-controller as a secondary controller, without FDD/HDD and without COM-B or GamePort, you should set the jumpers accordingly, to give you COM3/IRQ4 & LPT2/IRQ5 ports ;-

To configure a W83757F IO-controller as a secondary controller, without FDD/HDD and without COM-B or GamePort, you should set the jumpers accordingly, to give you COM1/IRQ4 & LPT1/IRQ7 ports (with onboard motherboard ports set to COM3/IRQ4(9Pin), COM2/IRQ3(25Pin) & LPT2/IRQ5+ECP/EPP/SPP through the Bios-Setup) ;-

To configure a W83757F IO-controller as a secondary controller, without FDD/HDD, you should set the jumpers accordingly, to give you COM3/IRQ4 & COM4/IRQ3 & LPT2/IRQ5 & Game ports ;-

NB:: As stated above, I determined these setting through trial-and-error, but they seem to work for me.
