Overview

This is a BIOS update for the Brookings motherboard.


Identification

Use the followings steps to confirm that this is the correct BIOS update for your motherboard, follow these steps.

If the computer is turned off:

1.  Turn on the computer, and then begin pressing the F1 key repeatedly until you enter the BIOS Setup utility.

2.  After the BIOS Setup utility opens, on the Main tab, look at the bottom of the screen for the current BIOS version.  The version needs to read 0AAVIPxx (where xx is the current revision number).

3.  If BIOS 0AAVIPxx is displayed, you have the correct BIOS update.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup utility.

If the computer is turned on and in Windows:

1.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click Yes.

2.  When the computer restarts, begin pressing F1 to repeatedly until you enter the BIOS Setup utility.

3.  After the BIOS Setup Utility opens, on the Main tab, look at the bottom of the screen for the current BIOS version.  The version needs to read 0AAVIPxx (where xx is the current revision number).

4.  If BIOS 0AAVIPxx is displayed, you have the correct BIOS update.  Press F10 to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.


Installation

Preparing Your Computer

Before updating your computer's BIOS, enter the current BIOS Setup utility, and then write down each of the current settings, in the event that this information is needed again after the upgrade.

Copying Files in Windows Me

1.  Double-click the BIOS update file that you downloaded.

2.  The files self-extract and copy to the C:\Cabs\7511821 folder.

3.  Double-click the My Computer icon.

4.  In the My Computer window, double-click C:, and then double-click the Cabs folder.  If you cannot see any files, click View the entire contents of the drive.

5.  In the Cabs folder, double-click the 7511821 folder.

5.  In the 7511821 folder, click the Edit menu, and then click Select All.

6.  In the 7511821 folder, click the Edit menu, and then click Copy.

7.  Quit all open programs, and then close all open windows.

8.  Place a formatted, blank disk in the floppy disk drive.

9.  Double-click the My Computer icon.

10.  In the My Computer window, double-click A:.

11.  In the A: folder, click the Edit menu, and then click Paste.

Copying Files in Windows XP

1.  Double-click the BIOS update file that you downloaded.

2.  The files self-extract and copy to the C:\Cabs\7511821 folder.

3.  From the Start menu, click My Computer.

4.  In the My Computer window, double-click C:, and then double-click the Cabs folder.  If you cannot see any files, click View the entire contents of the drive.

5.  In the Cabs folder, double-click the 7511821 folder.

6.  On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.

7.  In the Folder Options dialog box, click the View tab.

8.  On the View tab, under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders.  Also verify that the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box is not selected.

9.  In the Warning dialog box, click Yes.

10.  In the Folder Options dialog box, click OK.

11.  In the 7511821 folder, click the Edit menu, and then click Select All.

12.  In the 7511821 folder, click the Edit menu, and then click Copy.

13.  Quit all open programs, and then close all open windows.

14.  Place a formatted, blank disk in the floppy disk drive.

15.  From the Start menu, click My Computer.

16.  In the My Computer window, double-click A:.

17.  In the A: folder, click the Edit menu, and then click Paste.

Performing the Update

1.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click Yes.  Leave the disk in the floppy disk drive while the computer restarts.

2.  The system starts to the disk.  A "Flashing Brookings Board with BIOS P11 press any key to continue" message appear.  Press any key.

3.  A multicolor screen appears while the BIOS is updated.  Do not press any keys at this time.

4.  After the BIOS update is complete, the computer restarts.  When the computer restarts, remove the disk from the floppy disk drive, and then start pressing F1 repeatedly until the BIOS screen opens.

5.  Press F10, and then press the ENTER key to save changes and exit.

Note: The computer may stop responding, and a "CMOS setting are wrong" message may appear.  If this occurs, press the F9 key to load the default values.


Troubleshooting

If the BIOS upgrade does not work, download the file again, and then follow the steps for installing the BIOS.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
