ATTO IP over Fibre Channel (FC-IP) Driver
Windows NT/2000 Installation
----------------------------
The ExpresIP driver allows an ATTO FCSW, FC 2600, or FC 33xx series Fibre
Channel HBA to act as an IP Network Adapter. This allows the system to
communicate with other FC-IP capable devices on a SAN as though they were
on a traditional Ethernet LAN.
-------------------------------------------
To install the ATTO ExpresIP driver in Windows NT:
1. You must be logged on as a system administrator to install this driver.
2. Verify that the ATTO Fibre Channel driver (expresfc.sys) is properly
loaded. To do so, click Start, point to Settings, and then click
Control Panel. Double-click SCSI Adapters and highlight the appropriate
ATTO ExpressPCI host adapter. Click Properties. The Device Status
should indicate that the device is working properly.
3. From the Control Panel, double-click Network, select the Adapters tab,
and click the Add button
4. When prompted, click the Have Disk button. Insert the ATTO ExpressPCI
FC installation disk into drive A. Enter the path "A:\IP", and press
Enter. (If installing from a CD or downloaded driver package, use the
Browse button to find the directory).
5. Press Enter (the only available option shown should be "ATTO ExpresIP
Adapter.")
6. The system will automatically install the driver and load the ExpresIP
configuration utility. Refer to the Configuring the ExpresIP driver
section (below) for information on customizing the adapter settings.
Simply exit the ExpresIP utility if you want to accept the default
settings.
7. Press the OK button in the Network window to complete the installation
process. Windows may prompt you for additional parameters; configure
these as you would a standard Network adapter.
8. You will be prompted to restart Windows. The new driver will load
properly and be fully operational after system restart.
-------------------------------------------
To install the ATTO ExpresIP driver in Windows 2000 and newer:
1. You must be logged on as a system administrator to install this driver.
2. Using the Device Manager, verify that the ATTO Fibre Channel driver
(expresfc.sys) is loaded properly. To access the Device Manager, click
Start, point to settings, and then click Control Panel. Click System,
click on the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. For
additional information about using the Device Manager, click the Action
menu in the Device Manager, and then click Help.
3. Use the Add/Remove Hardware utility to install the driver. To access
the utility click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control
Panel. Double-click Add/Remove Hardware, click the Next button, and
select the Add/Troubleshoot button. Click the Next button.
4. Windows will automatically search for Plug and Play hardware. When this
process is complete, select "Add a new device" from the list of
installed devices. Click the Next button.
5. Windows will prompt you to search for new hardware. Select "No, I want
to select hardware from a list," and click the Next button.
6. Select Network adapters from the list of Hardware types. Click the Next
button.
7. When prompted, click the Have Disk button. Insert the ATTO ExpressPCI
FC installation disk into drive A. Enter the path "A:\IP", and press
Enter. (If installing from a CD or downloaded driver package, use the
Browse button to find the directory).
8. Press Enter (the only available option shown should be "ATTO ExpresIP
Adapter.")
9. The system will automatically install the driver and load the ExpresIP
configuration utility. Refer to the Configuring the ExpresIP driver
section (below) for information on customizing the adapter settings.
Simply exit the ExpresIP utility if you want to accept the default
settings.
10. Press the OK button in the Network window to complete the installation
process. Windows may prompt you for additional parameters; configure
these as you would a standard Network adapter.
11. You may be prompted to restart Windows. The new driver will load
properly and be fully operational after system restart.
-------------------------------------------
Configuring the ExpresIP driver
In Windows NT, from the Control Panel double-click Network Adapters, select the
Adapters tab, highlight the ExpresIP adapter, and click on the Properties
button.
In Windows 2000, access the Device Manager and open the ExpresIP properties
adapter. Select the Advanced tab.
There are several options available to configure the ExpresIP driver. If you
choose not to set these options, the driver will use default values that are
appropriate for most systems. However, systems which handle unusually large
amounts of Fibre Channel IP traffic may benefit from modifying these values.
The following values are configurable:
MTU Size: Specifies the maximum transmission unit (MTU) size on the IP network.
This number should be the same for all FC-IP devices on the SAN.
Buffer Count: Specifies how many transmit and receive buffers are allocated by
the ExpresIP adapter. Large values in this field may prevent the
driver from initializing on systems with limited memory.
Node Name: This section allows you to bind an instance of the ExpresIP adapter
to a specific HBA. See the section "Using multiple adapters" for
additional information on this feature.
Number of IP Control Blocks: Specifies how many IP control blocks the ExpresIP
driver allocates. Large values in this field may
prevent the driver from initializing on systems
with limited memory.
-------------------------------------------
Using multiple adapters
If you are configuring a system with multiple ATTO ExpressPCI Fibre Channel
adapters, you will need to install a separate ExpresIP driver instance for each
adapter. Additionally, you should specify which Node Name each ExpresIP
adapter will attach to. Specifying Node Names forces the ExpresIP driver
instances to bind to the same physical adapter each time they initialize,
instead of binding to the first adapter available.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
