NOTE: If you already have one or more ExpressPCI adapters

you do NOT need to perform any of these procedures
unless you are updating a previously installed driver.

A. Upgrading your ExpressPCI Windows driver
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. Log on to Windows as the system administrator.

    2. Insert your ExpressPCI Installation Disk and run Setup.exe.
Click "Install" to install the ExpressPCI driver and follow the
        instructions to complete the installation.

    NOTE:
The ExpressPCI Installation Disk is either the Installation CD
shipped with your adapter, a folder containing the latest driver
that was downloaded and expanded or an ExpressPCI installation
        floppy disk.

If you are using the Installation CD, it will automatically start
when inserted in Windows. The on-screen instructions will provide a
mechanism to install the driver. Otherwise, navigate to the folder
or floppy disk and run Setup.exe.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
B. Adding an ExpressPCI adapter to an existing Windows installation.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    NOTE:
It is recommended that you complete this installation procedure
before attaching any devices to the adapter.

    1. Perform the installation procedure in (A) to pre-install the
ExpressPCI driver. Shutdown Windows when Setup prompts you
        to do so.

    2. Install your ExpressPCI adapter into an available PCI expansion
        slot.

    3. Restart Windows. Windows should detect your ExpressPCI adapter
and the Found New Hardware Wizard should appear. Proceed through
the wizard with the default settings for each adapter channel.
During the installation, you will be prompted to insert the
        ExpressPCI Installation disk.

    4. When adapter installation is complete, the Found New Hardware Wizard
will appear for an "ATTO Phantom Device" for each channel. Proceed
through the wizard with the default settings to complete the
        installation.

    5. Shutdown the system and setup the final adapter configuration.

        a. If the ExpressPCI adapter is replacing another adapter in the
system, disconnect the cables from the adapter and remove
the adapter from the system. Optionally, you can move the
ExpressPCI adapter to the PCI slot that the previous adapter
occupied if this slot is more suitable for the ExpressPCI
            adapter.

        b. Attach the appropriate cables to the ExpressPCI adapter.

        c. Close the computer chassis, turn on the power and restart
            Windows.

NOTE: If you moved the adapter to a different PCI slot, the
Found New Hardware Wizard will appear. Proceed through
the wizard with the default settings for each adapter channel
            to complete the installation.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
C. Installing a fresh copy of Windows onto a disk attached to the
    ExpressPCI adapter.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. Start Windows text mode setup as per the instructions provided
with Windows. Press F6 when the first blue window appears
called "Windows Setup". The setup program will display a prompt
in the status window on the bottom left of the monitor.

Setup will continue to load files after you press F6.

    2. A new window will appear that gives instructions to specify
additional mass storage devices. Press 'S' indiciating that you
wish to install a storage device.

    3. Insert the ExpressPCI installation diskette in drive A: and press
Enter. You should then be presented with a screen from which you
would normally select a driver, but only a list of ExpressPCI
adapters should appear. Select your adapter and Press Enter.

    4. Windows Setup will load the files from the floppy and then display
screen described in step 2. The 'ATTO ExpressPCI' device should
        now be listed as detected.

    5. Repeat steps 2 - 4 for any other vendor-supplied driver installation
disks. After all other drivers have been processed, press Enter and
proceed with the rest of the Windows Installation procedure.

    NOTE:
When Windows begins copying files to your hard disk, you will again
be prompted to insert the ExpressPCI installation disk
(and any other vendor-supplied disks you used during custom
installation). This is normal. The first time you inserted
the disks, Windows only loaded the drivers into memory; the second
time you insert the disk(s), Windows is copying the driver to your
        hard disk.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
D. Creating an ExpressPCI installation floppy disk
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

A floppy disk with the ExpressPCI driver software is required for
    procedure (C).

To create a floppy disk from the ExpressPCI Installation CD:

        1. Insert the Installation CD into a CD-ROM and the installation
will automatically start. If the ExpressPCI installation does
not start, navigate to the root of the CD and run 'autorun.bat'.

        2. Select your adapter and "Windows Drivers" from the items on the
            left side of the screen.

        3. Select the appropriate CPU based operating system from operating
            system choices.

        4. Select "Create Miniport Driver Diskette" for the desired
            operating system.

        5. Follow the instructions for creating the floppy disk.

To create a floppy disk from a ExpressPCI driver download from the
    ATTO Technology website:

        1. Download the latest driver software from the ATTO Technology
            website.

        2. The download is a self-extracting executable that expands the
driver software package. Run the self-extracting executable and
select a folder to place the expanded software package.

        3. Navigate to the expanded software package. The ExpressPCI
Windows driver is located in the base directory.

        4. Run "makedisk.bat" and follow the instructions for creating
            the floppy disk.
