ExpressPCI Adapter Windows XP Installation ----------------------- NOTE: If you already have one or more ExpressPCI adapters installed and you are installing additional adapter(s), you do NOT need to perform any of these procedures unless you are updating a previously installed driver. -------- Contents -------- A. Upgrading your ExpressPCI Windows driver ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Log on to Windows as the system administrator. 2. Insert your ExpressPCI Installation Disk and run Setup.exe. Click "Install" to install the ExpressPCI driver and follow the instructions to complete the installation. NOTE: The ExpressPCI Installation Disk is either the Installation CD shipped with your adapter, a folder containing the latest driver that was downloaded and expanded or an ExpressPCI installation floppy disk. If you are using the Installation CD, it will automatically start when inserted in Windows. The on-screen instructions will provide a mechanism to install the driver. Otherwise, navigate to the folder or floppy disk and run Setup.exe. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- B. Adding an ExpressPCI adapter to an existing Windows installation. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: It is recommended that you complete this installation procedure before attaching any devices to the adapter. 1. Perform the installation procedure in (A) to pre-install the ExpressPCI driver. Shutdown Windows when Setup prompts you to do so. 2. Install your ExpressPCI adapter into an available PCI expansion slot. 3. Restart Windows. Windows should detect your ExpressPCI adapter and the Found New Hardware Wizard should appear. Proceed through the wizard with the default settings for each adapter channel. During the installation, you will be prompted to insert the ExpressPCI Installation disk. 4. When adapter installation is complete, the Found New Hardware Wizard will appear for an "ATTO Phantom Device" for each channel. Proceed through the wizard with the default settings to complete the installation. 5. Shutdown the system and setup the final adapter configuration. a. If the ExpressPCI adapter is replacing another adapter in the system, disconnect the cables from the adapter and remove the adapter from the system. Optionally, you can move the ExpressPCI adapter to the PCI slot that the previous adapter occupied if this slot is more suitable for the ExpressPCI adapter. b. Attach the appropriate cables to the ExpressPCI adapter. c. Close the computer chassis, turn on the power and restart Windows. NOTE: If you moved the adapter to a different PCI slot, the Found New Hardware Wizard will appear. Proceed through the wizard with the default settings for each adapter channel to complete the installation. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- C. Installing a fresh copy of Windows onto a disk attached to the ExpressPCI adapter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Start Windows text mode setup as per the instructions provided with Windows. Press F6 when the first blue window appears called "Windows Setup". The setup program will display a prompt in the status window on the bottom left of the monitor. Setup will continue to load files after you press F6. 2. A new window will appear that gives instructions to specify additional mass storage devices. Press 'S' indiciating that you wish to install a storage device. 3. Insert the ExpressPCI installation diskette in drive A: and press Enter. You should then be presented with a screen from which you would normally select a driver, but only a list of ExpressPCI adapters should appear. Select your adapter and Press Enter. 4. Windows Setup will load the files from the floppy and then display screen described in step 2. The 'ATTO ExpressPCI' device should now be listed as detected. 5. Repeat steps 2 - 4 for any other vendor-supplied driver installation disks. After all other drivers have been processed, press Enter and proceed with the rest of the Windows Installation procedure. NOTE: When Windows begins copying files to your hard disk, you will again be prompted to insert the ExpressPCI installation disk (and any other vendor-supplied disks you used during custom installation). This is normal. The first time you inserted the disks, Windows only loaded the drivers into memory; the second time you insert the disk(s), Windows is copying the driver to your hard disk. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- D. Creating an ExpressPCI installation floppy disk ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- A floppy disk with the ExpressPCI driver software is required for procedure (C). To create a floppy disk from the ExpressPCI Installation CD: 1. Insert the Installation CD into a CD-ROM and the installation will automatically start. If the ExpressPCI installation does not start, navigate to the root of the CD and run 'autorun.bat'. 2. Select your adapter and "Windows Drivers" from the items on the left side of the screen. 3. Select the appropriate CPU based operating system from operating system choices. 4. Select "Create Miniport Driver Diskette" for the desired operating system. 5. Follow the instructions for creating the floppy disk. To create a floppy disk from a ExpressPCI driver download from the ATTO Technology website: 1. Download the latest driver software from the ATTO Technology website. 2. The download is a self-extracting executable that expands the driver software package. Run the self-extracting executable and select a folder to place the expanded software package. 3. Navigate to the expanded software package. The ExpressPCI Windows driver is located in the base directory. 4. Run "makedisk.bat" and follow the instructions for creating the floppy disk.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
