\HELP\WIN95_98\WIN95_98.TXT NETGEAR EA201 Ethernet Card --------------------------- Driver Installation for Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows 98 ----------------------------------------------------------- Getting Started --------------- Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows 98 do not come bundled with the driver for the NETGEAR EA201 card. You must go through the following procedure to install the device driver into the Windows 95 or Windows 98 system for the adapter to function correctly. The Windows 95 installation disks or CD are needed to complete this installation. Installation for NETGEAR EA201 Ethernet adapter in PnP Mode ----------------------------------------------------------- 1. Plug in the NETGEAR EA201 Ethernet adapter into a PnP compatible ISA slot and power on the system to start Windows 95 running. 2. The Windows 95 system software finds the NETGEAR EA201 Ethernet PnP adapter. 3. You will be asked to provide the adapter driver from the manufacturer. 4. Insert the driver diskette in Drive A and then specify the full path for the driver, eg. A:\. A list of network adapters appears on the screen. 5. Select "NETGEAR EA201 Ethernet Card (PnP Mode)" when PnP is enabled. (See SETUP.EXE program for PnP select; PnP enabled is the default.) 6. Click OK. 7. After specifying the settings, click OK on the properties page to close the network windows. 8. The system will require some of the Windows 95 disks to install network support. 9. After copying the necessary files, select "Yes" to restart your computer. Installation for NETGEAR EA201 Ethernet adapter in non-PnP mode --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. From the Control Panel group, double-click on the Network program icon. The Network Windows screen appears. 2. From the Network window, click on "Add". 3. Double-click on "Adapter". 4. Select "Have Disk". 5. Specify the full path of the driver, eg. C:<PATH> (C:\WIN95). OR 6. Insert the driver diskette in Drive A and then specify the full path of the driver, eg. A:\. 7. A list of network adapters appears on the screen. 8. Select "NETGEAR EA201 Ethernet Card (PnP Mode)" when PnP is enabled; or "NETGEAR EA201 Ethernet Card (Non-PnP Mode)" when PnP is not enabled. (See Setup program for PnP select, PnP enabled is the default.) 9. Click OK. 10. After specifying settings, click OK on the properties page to close the network windows. 11. The system will require some of the Windows 95 CD/disks to install network support. 12. After copying the necessary files, select "Yes" to restart your computer. Advanced Setup -------------- The EA201 driver configures the adapter card to operate in half duplex mode by default. In this mode, the card must connect to 10M Hub device. when you need to configure the card to operate at full duplex mode. The following procedure guides you into the Windows 95 or Windows 98 system for this setting. 1. In Control Panel, open "Network". 2. Click on the "NETGEAR EA201 ..." adapter selection and the "Properties" button. 3. Click on the "Advanced" tab in the EA201 card window. 4. Click on the "Duplex Mode" property selection. 5. The "Value" windows will show the following possible selections: Half Duplex ; for 10M Hub device only. Full Duplex ; for 10M switch device in full duplex mode only. Choose the appropriate setting as needed. Caution: Unless necessary, do not modify the NetworkAddress field. The driver will use the default unique Ethernet address contained in the serial ROM on the adapter.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
