NETGEAR EA201 Ethernet Card
---------------------------
Driver Installation for Artisoft LANtastic
------------------------------------------
Getting Started
---------------
If desired, the duplex mode of the EA201 adapter card can also be
modified using the included SETUP.EXE program in the root directory.
For more detail, please refer to the SETUP.TXT file in the \HELP
directory.
NDIS driver installation in LANtastic 5.0
-----------------------------------------
1. "EA201.DOS" is the NDIS 2.01 driver for the NETGEAR EA201 Ethernet
Card. Every instance of the Artisoft driver, "AEXNDIS.DOS", must
be replaced by the NETGEAR driver "EA201.DOS" driver for the driver
to function correctly.
2. Make the following changes in the files.
In CONFIG.SYS:
----------------------------------------------------------
DEVICE=C:\LANTASTI\AEXNDIS.DOS -------> By LANtastic
* replace the previous line with *
DEVICE=C:\<path>\EA201.DOS -------> By NETGEAR
---------------------------------------------------------
In STARTNET.BAT:
---------------------------------------------------------
C:\LANTASTI\AI-NDIS BIND_TO=AEXNDIS_NIF
* replace the previous line with *
C:\LANTASTI\AI-NDIS BIND_TO=EA201_NIF
---------------------------------------------------------
In PROTOCOL.INI:
---------------------------------------------------------
[AEXNDIS_NIF]
DRIVERNAME = AEXNDIS$
* replace the previous lines with *
[EA201_NIF]
DRIVERNAME = EA201$
---------------------------------------------------------
Comments: If you are using PROTMAN.DOS V1.x, you must use the
NO_BIND option on the AI-NDIS command line in the
STARTNET.BAT. And you must run NETBIND.EXE V1.x
before AILANBIO.EXE.
NDIS driver installation in LANtastic 6.0
-----------------------------------------
When installing LANtastic for the first time
--------------------------------------------
1. During the installation of LANtastic, you will be prompted
to select the adapters. Select "NDIS Support for Network
Adapters".
2. Provide the NDIS driver directory (C:\<PATH>) to the
LANtastic installation program.
The installation program will copy "EA201.DOS" from
the target path and modify the LANtastic "PROTOCOL.INI"
to complete the installation.
When adding the EA201 card after LANtastic is already installed
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. Copy the NDIS2 DOS driver for the EA201 adapter from the
provided diskette into the hard disk.
2. Make the following change in the files.
In CONFIG.SYS:
---------------------------------------------------------
DEVICE=C:\LANTASTI\AEXNDIS.DOS -------> By LANtastic
* replace the previous line with *
DEVICE=C:\LANTASTI\EA201.DOS -------> By NETGEAR
---------------------------------------------------------
Note: "EA201.DOS" is the NDIS driver for the EA201 card.
"AEXNDIS.DOS" is an NDIS driver provided by ARTISOFT.
In STARTNET.BAT:
--------------------------------------------------------
LOADHIGH AI-NDIS BIND_TO=AEXNDIS_NIF
* replace the previous line with *
LOAGHIGH AI-NDIS BIND_TO=EA201_NIF
---------------------------------------------------------
In PROTOCOL.INI:
---------------------------------------------------------
[AEXNDIS_NIF]
DRIVERNAME = AEXNDIS$
* replace the previous line with *
[EA201_NIF]
DRIVERNAME = EA201$
---------------------------------------------------------
If the "BINDINGS" statement appears in PROTOCOL.INI, make
the following modification.
---------------------------------------------------------
BINDINGS = AEXNDIS_NIF
* replace the previous line with *
BINDINGS = EA201_NIF
---------------------------------------------------------
Configuration Parameters in PROTOCOL.INI for EA201.DOS
------------------------------------------------------
When the EA201 NDIS 2 for DOS driver, EA201.DOS, is loaded into
LANtastic, the driver looks into the PROTOCOL.INI file for specific
configuration requirement. The keywords are optional and come with
their respective default values.
DRIVERNAME - This keyword specifies the driver name for the
adapter.
IOADDRESS - This keyword specifies the I/O base address used by
the adapter. This value must match the actual address
setting on the adapter. If this keyword is not
specified, the default value will be put into effect.
INTERRUPT - This keyword specifies the interrupt line used by the
adapter. This value must match the actual IRQ setting
on the adapter. If this keyword is not specified, the
default value will be put into effect.
NETADDRESS- This keyword specifies the node address (in hex) used
by the adapter. This option is used only to override
the node address stored in the adapter. With this
keyword, the specified address will be used instead of
the adapter's actual node address.
MEDIA - This keyword specifies which port on the adapter is
used for network connection. Options include
AUTODETECT, TP, BNC and AUI.
EARLYTX - This keyword is provided to enhance the driver
performance. If EARLYTX = ON, early transmission is
enabled. (default setting). If EARLYTX = OFF, early
transmission is disabled.
SEARCH_ALL_CARD - This keyword specifies to search all EA201
Ethernet adapters.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
