IJ900.txt Driver File Contents (sp10492.exe)

This folder contains the software drivers for the Compaq IJ900 Color Inkjet Printer. 

These drivers will work with Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Windows 98. They do not work
for Windows NT. Driver for Windows NT are available in a separate Softpaq. Please refer
to www.compaq.com and select Windows NT as your operating system to locate the Softpaq.

Creating Diskettes
==================
The Compaq IJ900 Color Inkjet Printer drivers fit on three high-density (1.44 Megabyte)
diskettes. To create diskettes:

1.  Locate and format three high-density (1.44 Megabyte) diskettes.
2.  Open File Manager (Windows 3.1) or a Windows Explorer (Windows 95/98).
3.  Navigate to the folder where this Softpaq was unpacked.
4.  Double-click on the batch file MAKEDISK.BAT and follow the instructions on the screen.


Installation
============

Installation is different depending upon whether you are using Windows 3.1 or Windows 
95/98. See the appropriate section below that best fits your situation:

Installing the IJ900 under Windows 3.1
======================================
A setup program, called SETUP.EXE has been provided in the DISK1 sub-folder of the 
Softpaq distribution.

From the Softpaq unpack folder:

1.  Remove any previously installed drivers. This is done by running the UNSETC9.EXE 
    program in the Compaq IJ900 program group within File Manager. 
2.  Open File Manager.
3.  Navigate to the folder where you unpacked this Softpaq. You should notice three
    sub-folders: DISK1, DISK2 and DISK3.
4.  Select the sub-folder DISK1. 
5.  Double-click on the program SETUP.EXE and follow the instructions provided.

From the floppy disks:

1.  Remove any previously installed drivers. This is done by running the UNSETC9.EXE 
    program in the Compaq IJ900 program group within File Manager. 
2.  Insert the first diskette into a floppy drive.
3.  Open File Manager.
4.  Select the floppy drive where the diskette was inserted.
5.  Double-click on the program SETUP.EXE and follow the instructions provided.

Installing the IJ900 under Windows 95 or Windows 98
===================================================
The IJ900 Color Inkjer Printer drivers must be installed using the Add Printer Wizard.

From the Softpaq unpack folder:

1.  Remove any previously installed drivers. This is done by selecting 
    Start/Programs/Compaq IJ900/Compaq IJ900 Uninstall. Restart Windows when prompted to do so.
2.  Select Start/Settings/Printers. This brings up the Printer Explorer.
3.  Select Add Printer. This brings up the Add Printer Wizard.
4.  Select "Local Printer" then click on the Next button.
5.  Select "Have Disk". This brings up the "Install from Disk" dialog.
6.  Click on the Browse button. This brings up an "Open" dialog.
7.  Navigate the dialog to the folder where you unpacked this Softpaq, then navigate
    further into the DISK1 sub-folder. Notice the file "WIN95.INF" appears under "file name".
8.  Select OK. This closes the "Open" dialog, and returns you to the Install from Disk dialog.
9.  Select OK. This closes the "Install from Disk" dialog, and returns you to the Add Printer
    Wizard.
10. Notice the name "Compaq IJ900" is displayed. Click on the Next button.
11. Select LPT1: the click the Next button.
12. You are now asked to supply a name for the new printer. The default name is "Compaq IJ900".
    LEAVE THIS NAME AS IT IS. Click on the Finish button.
13. The Add Printer Wizard begins copying the driver files. During the copy, Windows asks for
    "Compaq IJ900 Installation Disk 2". When this happens, click on the OK button. This displays
    the Copying Files dialog.
14. In the edit box of the Copying Files dialog, change the last character of the path shown
    from "DISK1" to read "DISK2". Then click on the OK button. File copying resumes.
15. The Add Printer Wizard continues copying the driver files. During the copy, Windows asks for
    "Compaq IJ900 Installation Disk 3". When this happens, click on the OK button. This displays
    the Copying Files dialog.
16. In the edit box of the Copying Files dialog, change the last character of the path shown
    from "DISK2" to read "DISK3". Then click on the OK button. File copying resumes.
17. When copying is complete, instructions are provided by on-screen prompts to guide you through
    the remainder of the installation.

From floppy disks:

1.  Remove any previously installed drivers. This is done by selecting

16. When prompted for "Compaq IJ900 Installation Disk 3" remove diskette 2, insert diskette 3,
    and click on the OK button. Copying continues.
17. When copying is complete, instructions are provided by on-screen prompts to guide you through
    the remainder of the installation.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
