\HELP\DIAG.TXT NETGEAR FA310 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter --------------------------------------- Diagnostic Program ------------------ Introduction ------------ The diagnostics program allows you to verify the configuration and isolates any fault condition on the adapter card. The diagnostic program file: ---------------------------- DIAG.EXE Getting Started --------------- The diagnostic program DIAG.EXE is provided in the root directory of the driver diskette. No decompresstion is necessary prior to program execution with the following procedure. 1. Insert the Drivers and Diagnostics disk and type A:\DIAG to execute the diagnostic program. eg. A:\DIAG 2. The diagnostic program lets you view the current adapter configuration: Viewed items: Your Current Configuration <1> Node ID <2> Bus Mode <3> Card Type <4> Connnecting Mode <5> I/O Base Address <6> Interrupt Number If the Node ID appearing on the screen does not begin with "00A0CC" or "004005", the adapter card may not be configured correctly by the system BIOS. Check with the "PnP OS" setting on the system BIOS and make sure that it is set to "OFF". However, you may need to change the "PnP OS" setting back to "ON" when booting a PnP compatible operating system such as Windows 95 or Windows 98. The test cannot continue correctly if the node ID is read incorrectly. From this point onward, you can execute either the Adapter Basic Diagnostics to test out the card itself, or the Network Diagnostics test to test the packet transmission and reception on the cable. 3. Adapter Basic Diagnostics performs the following tests on the adapter card itself. <1> Serial ROM Test <2> Controller Internal Loopbak Test <3> Twister Layer Internal Loopbak Test <4> Network Connection Test Serial ROM Test --------------- This test reads and verifies the content of the Serial ROM. The test fails if the adapter configuration data kept in the Serial ROM returns with a bad checksum, meaning that the adapter may not be programmed properly, or the serial ROM is damaged. Controller Internal Loopbak Test -------------------------------- In this test, packets are generated at the rate of 100Mbps or 10Mbps. All packets are interrupted and reflected at the MAC level without reaching the network cable. A failed test result indicates a faulty Ethernet Controller. Twister Layer Internal Loopbak Test ----------------------------------- In this test, packets are generated at the rate of 100Mbps. The Ethernet controller lets all packet data past through in both transmit and receive directions. All packets are interrupted and reflected at the PHY transceiver level without reaching the network cable. A failed test result indicates a faulty Physical layer controller. Network Connection Test ----------------------- This test verifies the media connection status. A failed result indicates bad network connection. Please check your twisted-pair cable connection to the adapter card. 4. Network Diagnostics test Select Network Diagnostics to perform a live transmission test for checking the adapter's network connectivity. This test can be executed by itself without previously loading any other NDIS or ODI drivers. ---- Network Diagnostic ---- | Set up as a master station | | Set up as a slave station | ---------------------------- The Network Diagnostics option tests the ability of the adapter to communicate with other stations on the network. This test requires one master station and one slave station. The master station is responsible for sending test packets to the network. The slave station is responsible for sending back these packets to the master station. There is good connectivity if all of the packets sent by the master were able to come back. First set up a station as master by selecting the "Set up as a master station" option on that station. Secondly set up another station as slave by selecting the "Set up as a slave station" option on that station. When you start the test, these messages appear on each station: MASTER STATION ------ Master Station ------ | Waiting Sending Receiving | | \ | / | ---------------------------- SLAVE STATION --------------------- Slave Station --------------------------- | Node Address : 00 40 05 00 00 02 | | I/O Base Address : 300 Test started at : 20:06:10 | | Interrupt Number : 3 Current time : 20:10:50 | | | | Transmit Packet Length ............................. 1234 | | Transmit Packet Counter ............................ 1111 | | Transmit Time Out Counter .......................... 0 | | | | Received Packet Length ............................. 1234 | | Received Packet Counter ............................ 1111 | | Received Error Counter ............................. 0 | | No Response Counter ................................ 0 | | Data Mismatch Counter .............................. 0 | ---------------------------------------------------------------- You can pause in the middle of the test by pressing the space bar, or the Esc key to skip out of the test. At the end of the test, a message pops up to indicate success or failure of the Network Diagnostics test.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
