Date: September 11, 1996 Subject: To load Windows 95 into a HDD used in an AQUANTA LN notebook To load drivers used in Windows 95 4.00.950 B of AQUANTA LN notebook **************************************************************************** * * * TO LOAD WINDOWS 95 INTO A HDD USED IN AN AQUANTA LN NOTEBOOK * * * **************************************************************************** The procedure will cover 3 steps: Step1: Prepare the HDD installed in Aquanta LN 1- Boot from a bootable diskette called "Aquanta LN Win95 bootable diskette" 2- From A:> type in "fdisk" to configure a HDD used in Aquanta LN Create the 100% partition for primary DOS. Once the partition is done, notebook will reboot. 3- From A:> type in "format C:" to format the HDD Step2: Copy all files for the Microsoft Windows 95 OSR2 (revision B) to C:\ 1- From C:\, type in "md win95" 2- From C:\, type in "cd win95" 3- From C:\win95, type in "copy D:\win95\*.* and press "Enter" Step3: Do installation of Windows 95 OSR2 (revision B) from C:\ 1- From C:\win95, type in "setup" 2- Follow instruction from the screen to install Windows 95 **************************************************************************** * * * TO LOAD DRIVERS USED IN WINDOWS 95 REV. B OF AQUANTA LN NOTEBOOK * * * **************************************************************************** After Windows 95 is successfully loaded into a hard drive of Aquanta LN, a user should load additional drivers, which is provided through diskettes, to the Windows 95. For example, C&T65548 video driver, ESS1688 sound driver, ALPS mouse driver... Microsoft generic IR driver is provided with Windows 95 Revision A and Revision B. To configure the AQUANTA LN notebook with Windows 95, from "Control Panel": Double click in "System properties" Click on "Performance" menu bar Click on "File system" At settings, select "Mobile or docking system" Click "OK" and get out To load file "pcmciao2.inf", from "Control Panel": Double click on "Add new hardware", then "Next" Click "No" in the next box to instruct the system not to search for new hardware automatically and press "Next" From Hardware types, double click on "PCMCIA socket" From the "Add New Hardware Wizard", make sure the "PCIC or compatible PCMCIA controller" is hight lighted, and click on "Have Disk..." Make sure a diskette called a system disk is in A:\, from the "Install From Disk", click on "Browse" of A:\ drive Type in "pcmciao2.inf" to space under the File name, and select "OK" From the "Install From disk", click on "OK" From the "Add New Hardware Wizard", under "manufactuters" column, click on "O2Micro", and then "Next" and "Next" again A message to ask to insert the disk label Windows 95 CD-ROM appears click on "OK" From the "copying Files..." box, under copy files from, type in "c:\windows\system" to get the file named "carddrv.exe, and then click "OK" From the "Add New Hardware Wizard" box, click on "Finish" Answer "No" and click on "Next"; Answer "No" and click on "Next" again Click on "Finish" to get out Do not reboot the system by answering "No" From "Control Panel", go to "System Properties" and "Device manager" Double click on "PCMCIA socket", remove all drivers with red mark or yellow mark by click on "Remove"; and then "refresh" the system If the load is successful, a new "O2Micro PCI to PCMCIA Brige" appears To load C&T 65548 video driver to Windows 95 4.00.950 B, from "Control Panel": Double click the "Display" icon From the Display properties, click on "Settings" and then click on "Advanced Properties" From the "Advanced Display Properties", select "Adapter" menu bar and then "Change" From the "select Device", click on "Have Disk..." Make sure a diskette called C&T 65548 video driver is in A:\ From the "Install from Disk" box, browse A:\, select path "A:\C&T65548 and click "OK" Click "OK" in the following "Select Device" box After drivers is loaded from A:\C&T65548, click "Apply" from "Advanced Display properties" click the "Monitor" menu bar and then "Change" From the "Select Device" box, select "Laptop Display Panel(800x600) and click "OK" From the "Advanced Display Properties", click "Apply" and "OK" Click on "Apply" and "OK" from "Display Properties" and reboot the system to register all changes. To set memory range for C&T 65548 driver, from "Control panel": Open the "System properties" and then "Device manager" menu From the "Device manager", click on "Display adapters" Double click on "Chips and Technologies 65548 PCI (new)" Click the "Resources" menu in the C&T 65548 PCI "Properties" box Remove the check mark in the box labeled "Use automatic settings" Under the "Resource type" column, find the setting most resembling as: Memory range CX000000-CX7FFFFF (X represents a number) and click on "Memory range" and then "Change Setting.." Change the setting to C0800000-C0FFFFFF and click "OK" Click "OK" in the following box, click "OK" again Click "Yes" in the following warning box Reboot the system for this new change. To load ESS 1688 sound driver under Windows 95 4.00.950 B, from Control Panel: Double click on "Add New Hardware", then "Next" Click "No" in the next box to instruct the system not to search for new hardware automatically and press "Next" From Hardware types, click on "Sound, video and game controllers" and press "Next" Make sure a diskette called "ESS 1688 sound driver" is in A:\ Click on "Have Disk" from the "Add New Hardware Wizard" Select path A:\ess1688, and click "OK" from the "Install From Disk" box From the "Select device" box, under models, select "ESS ES 1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive" and click "OK" Click "Finish" in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" Reboot the system. If the load is successful, sound is generated. Go back to "Device Manager" from "System Properties" of "Control Panel" Double click "Sound, video and game controller" Click the "ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive" with a yellow mark Click the "Remove" button and "OK" in the following confirmation box Click "OK" to close the "System properties" box. To load ALPS mouse driver under Windows 95 4.00.950 B, from Control Panel: Double click on the "Mouse" icon Click on "General" and the "Change" from the "Mouse Properties" menu From the "Select Device" menu, select "Standard PS/2 Port Mouse" and then click on "Have Disk..." Make sure a diskette called "ALPS mouse driver" is in A:\ Select path A:\ALPS, and then click "OK" Click "OK" from the "Select Device" After ALPS driver is loaded from A:\ALPS, click "Close" from the Mouse Properties and reboot the system If the load is successful, a new mouse symbol will replace the standard mouse symbol from Microsoft in the Control Panel. To load the file : "288Modem.Inf" under Windows 4.00.950B from the Control Panel : Click "Add new Hardware" Click "Next" Click "No" Click "Next" Click "MODEM" Click "Next" Click "Next" Now the system will start looking for a MODEM. After the system has finished looking for a MODEM, click "Next" Insert a diskette which has the Modem.inf file Click on Have a disk Click on Browse Select "288Mdoem.inf", click OK Click OK Click Next Select Communications Port (COM1) Select Next Type your city's telephone area code Enter a number which you need to enter in order to dial outside Click Next Click Finish To load IrDA driver under Windows rev. B or A, from Control Panel: Double click "Add New Hardware" Click "Next" in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" Click "No" in the next box to instruct the system not to search for new hardware automatically and press "Next" Click "Infrared" in the "Hardware types" box and press "Next" Click "Next" in the following box In the next menu, click "Standard infrared device" in the manufacturers box and "Built in Infrared port on laptop or desktop" in the "Models" box and press "Next" Click "COM2" in the next menu and press "Next" Confirm that "Use default ports" is selected in the next menu and press "Next" A notice reading "Your infrared device has been set up successfully" should appear, and when it does, click the "Finish" box. After reboot, an icon named "Infrared" will appear in the "Control Panel". To load file "mb-tri.inf", (Windows 95 4.00.950 B does not need to load mb-tri.inf) The procedure is applicable for Windows95 4.00.950 A or earlier version. From "Control panel", Open the "System properties" and then "Device manager" menu Double click on "? Other Device" Double click on "? PCI Bridge" Click on "Driver" Click on "Change driver", and select "Other device" From the Select drive menu, click on "Have Disk..." Insert the diskette called system disk to A:\, click on "Browse..." Type in "mb-tri.inf" to space under the File name, and select "OK" Select "OK" several times, file will load automatically from A:\ to C:\ If the load is successful, the "? After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
