B. Late-breaking news regarding your Windows NT printer driver
==============================================================
I. Tips
-------
* Increasing the printing speed
  If MicroWeave is selected, black ink printing is much slower than
  usual.
  (Color printing speed is only slightly affected by MicroWeave).
  Turn off MicroWeave to increase print speed.
  If you are printing in black ink, select MicroWeave only for
  presentation quality printing.

  Other ways to speed up your printing include turning on High Speed
  mode, turning off Halftoning, printing in black ink instead of
  color, and printing at a lower resolution.

  Your CPU speed, amount of system memory, application type,
  document type, and degree of hard disk fragmentation also
  significantly affect printing speed.

* EGA and CGA displays
  The driver does not function properly with EGA and CGA displays.
  Either use the standard Windows driver (available from Microsoft)
  or upgrade your monitor to VGA.

* Changing printer resolution.
  Settings that are changed in the printer driver override the
  settings made in your application software. For example, when the
  Print Quality is set to Fine-720 dpi with Plain paper selected as
  the Media Type, your documents are printed at Fine-720 dpi even
  though the resolution in your application software is set to
  another resolution.

* Using the Propotional printing
  When you change the printing size by the Propotional printing item,
  sometimes the edges of your document are not printed.
  Make sure to place enough spaces to the edges of your document
  when you use the Propotional printing.

* Make sure to use SETUP.EXE for installing. The System Installer
  (Add Printer) sometimes fails to replace older versions of the
  driver files with the new version.
  When connecting a network printer connect the printer to a local
  port first (at installation time) and then change the connection
  to the network afterwards.

* Using utilities in the network environment.
  Sometimes the utilities (Nozzle Check, Head Cleaning, and Print
  Head Alignment) will not work in a network environment.
  If this is the case, please connect the printer to a local port
  to use the utilities.

II. Application notes
---------------------
* Lotus WordPro96 *
  1.Very rarely, an inported bitmap image is not printed correctly.
  2.The frame line is printed incorrectly.
    (All or some parts of the frame line exceed the document
     dimensions.)

* Works4.0 *
  If the "Cancel" button is clicked while printing, a "memory low"
  message is sometimes be displayed.

* Excel7.0 *
  If the reduction size is set to less then 43%, the system can
  sometimes hang up.

* Excel97 *
  Color of pattern occasionally looks different from print preview.

* WordPad *
  When printing a document just after system start-up the print
  position is sometimes incorrect (skipped page/skipped column).
  This problem has been noted only on the 1st print job.

* MS-Graph(MS-Word) *
  The name of a graph in a document is sometimes printing
  incorrectly.
  The position of the graph name is different from the screen.

* Corel Draw6.0 *
  Very rarely: An inported photographic image is not printed
  correctly.

* MS-Word7.0J *
  Sometimes the frame line (dot line) color is different from the
  screen.

* Lotus1-2-3 5.0J *
  Sometimes the line feed position is different from the preview.

* PowerPoint7.0 *
  The background color of a document is not printed correctly when
  printing using gray.

* Microsoft Word6.0, Microsoft Works4.0, CorelDRAW7.0, PowerPoint7.0 *
  Changing the copy count in the "copies" field on the paper
  dialogbox does not change the # of copies printed.

* Microsoft Word *
  If you want to reduce or enlarge printing size when printing in
  Microsoft Word, here are the steps to follow.
  1.Choose "Print" from the File menu.
  2.Click "Properties".
  3.Choose "Paper" sheet.
  4.Select a paper size to adjust to the size of your document.
  5.Choose the "Layout" sheet.
  6.Select "Fit to Page" in Proportional Printing item,then select
    your Paper size.
  7.Click "OK". - to close the "Layout" sheet.
  8.Click "OK". - to start printing.

* For Drawing software, when the Driver UI has been set to
  720/1440dpi and "Finest Detail" is on *

  If you print a document with image data, like Tiff file, after
  specifying the resolution of either 1440dpi or 720dpi where
  "Finest Detail" has been selected in the driver settings, some
  Drawing software creates a large quantity of interim print data.
  To print with software like this, a large quantity of both Virtual
  Memory and free HD space is necessary.
  Without enough Virtual Memory and free HD space, the software
  can't allocate the required Memory and may possibly lose the print
  data during spooling and/or greatly slow down the print job.
  In such a case, to avoid the problem:
    1. Expand the installed Memory
    2. Expand the size of the Virtual Memory
    3. Expand the amount of free space on your Hard Disk

* Others applications *
  Very rarely: when there are multiple spool files the print driver
  stops printing the spool file.
  When one file is finished, then screen displays a message -
  "deleting..."

III. Known printer driver problems
----------------------------------
* There are no known bugs within the printer driver itself.

IV. Known Problem of Windows NT 4.0 and Network printing
--------------------------------------------------------
* Part of the data is sometimes not printed when printing through a
  network.

* Part of the data is sometimes not printed when "Always spool RAW
  datatype" setting.

V. Using the paper check function
--------------------------------------------------------
* Network connections which support the paper check function
  The paper check function is available in network environments that
  use LPR (TCP/IP), but NOT in Novell NetWare environments,
  Microsoft Windows network environments using a shared printer, or
  in environments where the printer is connected directly to your PC.

* Printer models that support the paper check function
  If you use EPSON Status Monitor 2 to monitor your printer through
  a LPR network connection, the paper check function is available
  for the following printers in a Windows NT 4.0 environment: EPSON
  Stylus COLOR 3000 and EPSON Stylus Pro 5000.

* To turn on the paper check function
  Install and open the printer driver as described in your manual.
  Click the Print Processor button on the General menu, and select
  your printer in the dialog box that appears.
  Then click OK.
  Open the EPSON Status Monitor 2, which is located in the Epson
  folder.
  Select the target printer from the list of installed printers.
  If your printer is not listed, add your printer to the list.
  See online help if necessary.
  Click Printer Status on the Printer menu, click the Consumables
  tab, and set the "Check paper size before printing" setting to on.
