1. Overview

This disk contains the ELSA Display Driver for
        Microsoft Windows 95/98.

The drivers support 256, 32768 and 16 Million colors in all
resolutions available on used ELSA graphics board. Microsoft
DirectX is supported by an integrated DirectDraw/Direct3D HAL.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Contents

In case you install from CD the drivers directory contains the
following files, otherwise the W2Offc9x.EXE provides all modules
        needed :

In case of trouble during or after installation, please make
sure you have all the files mentioned above!

3. Installation

3.1 Installing ELSA graphics board for Windows 95/98

Remove your "old" VGA and put the ELSA graphics board into your
        computer.
On startup Windows 95/98 detects the ELSA graphics board as
"PCI standard VGA adapter" and prompts for a manufacturer disk.
Advanced users can now install as described in 3.3, Microsoft WHQL
        confirm way to install.
If you prefer an easy way to install the driver or the driver is
downloaded as EXE from the web you should first confirm Windows
request to install a "PCI Standard VGA adapter". Later you can
start the EXE or install by CD.

3.2 Installation from CD

During a running Windows 95/98 session insert the CD
into your CD-ROM. Normally after the CD is read, a setup is
started and guides through installation. In case 'Auto Insert
Notification' is disabled in your system, the setup has to be
started manually by double clicking its icon in the root of CD.
Now you can choose the components to be installed. After
rebooting the system your monitor is recognized and installed.
A resolution and color depth can be chosen now.

3.3 Installing downloaded driver packages

Driver packages from the web are self-extracting EXEs. The files
are temporary copied to e.g. c:\elsainst directory and an
automatic driver setup is started. Tools are installed, too.
After finishing the setup or canceling the procedure the
extracted installation files are deleted, including the
        temporary created folder.

3.4 Microsoft WHQL confirm way to install

After Windows recognized the ELSA graphics adapter choose
'Have Disk...'. If you are updating the driver manually, select
'change...' in the advanced settings of the diplay properties.
Now browse through the ELSA CD and select the proper display
        driver subdirectory (e.g. GLORIA\SYNERGY\WIN9X\STANDARD).Windows
will copy the driver files and prompt you to reboot the computer.
After restarting, Windows is running with the ELSA display
drivers active. If your ELSA graphics adapter is not the primary
display adapter in Windows 98, you have to activate the hardware
by clicking on the connected monitor bitmap in the global windows
        display settings.

3.5 Installation extension

The drivers installation routine will additionally create the
ELSA Settings and ELSA 3D Settings property pages (if available)
        and install an OpenGL ICD.
The drivers setup included in self-extracting driver packages
or the driver CD will install additional tools like WINman
Suite and ELSAinfo. In case your graphics adapter is provided
with video I/O capabilities, the setup will install the software
        components for these devices, too.

5. Known Bugs and Operating Notes

This section documents known anomalies or problems and gives
        hints on work arounds.

5.1.1 Changing color depth with QuickRes

If QuickRes changes the color depth without restarting Windows,
sometime you can see drawing errors. QuickRes patches (!) the
display driver, so the driver can no longer work properly.

5.1.2 Display errors with DirectX

Applications using DirectX could cause display errors when
DirectX version I or II is installed. Please install DirectX
version 6.1 or newer to solve this problems. You will find
this version of DirectX on the CD in the directory
        APPS\DIRECTX6 or ..\DirectX7

5.1.3 Display errors in applications

Grand Touring shows display errors, parts of the cars are
        missing.

The demoversion of Tomb Raider 4 sometimes crashes unmotivated.

WinTV or ELSAvision crash with older hardware, when overlay
display is used. Switch to primary mode to avoid this problem.

        Anti-Aliasing isn't supported.

In 1600x1200x32bpp resolution there may be pixel errors, when
the refresh rate is set to 72 or 73 HZ.

After fullscreen DOS-sessions there may be complications
        running Direct3D applications

Using Stereo3D in games leads to malfunctures in Re-Volt and
        Extreme Trial MotoCross.

The OpenGL performance must be optimized for K6-III systems.

5.1.4 Multiscreen display support

In Windows 98 any combinations of WINNER II and S3-based
adapters with Microsoft drivers are supported.
