Introduction:
-------------
This document describes the procedure to install Windows 98 driver for
AcerLAN ALN-201 PCI Ethernet Adapter.
Location of Driver: \W98&2000\ALN201.SYS NDIS 5 Mini-Port DRIVER
Installing driver procedure on Microsoft Windows 98:
-----------------------------------------------------
When Windows 98 finds the ALN-201 adapter,it will show a dialog box
of "Add New Hardware Wizard".The wizard will searches for new drivers for
"PCI Ethernet Controller".
Select "Next".
In the 'Add New Hardware Wizard' window,it will ask you
What do you want Windows to do?
Choose the item that
Display a list of all the drivers in a specific
location,so you can select the driver you want.
Click 'Next'.
It will prompt a window to Select the type of device from the list below.
Choose 'Network adapters'and click 'Next'.
Click 'Have Disk' button in the Select Device window.
In the 'Install From Disk' window,put the driver disk in the floppy drive
and enter the driver path i.e. 'a:\w98&2000' in combo list and click 'OK'.
It will show 'AcerLAN ALN-201 PCI Ethernet Adapter' in the Models field
of 'Select Device' window.Click 'OK'.
There will show 'A:\W98&2000\ALN201.INF' in the Location of driver field for
the device 'AcerLAN ALN-201 PCI Ethernet Adapter' in the 'Add New
Hardware Wizard' window.Click 'Next'.
Specify the path of the driver files i.e a:\w98&2000,then the Windows will
copy the necessary files for the driver and system files.Click 'Finish'.
If this is your first time to install the Ethernet adapter and have not
install the protocols and clients for Microsoft and Netware,please do NOT
restart the computer.Go to the Start\Settings\Control and double-click
the Network icon to install the other necessary files for the network
operation.
Windows 98 will ask you Do you want to restart your computer now?,
Click 'Yes' to restart the Windows 98.
Configure the property of ALN-201
----------------------------------
If ALN-201 Adapter is connected to the Ethernet Switch which supports
Full-Duplex feature,you can change the property of ALN-201 to be
Full-Duplex mode.
Go to the Start\Settings\Control and double-click the Network icon,click
the 'AcerLAN ALN-201 PCI Ethernet Adapter' item in the Configuration tag
and click the 'Properties' button.
In the 'AcerLAN ALN-201 PCI Ethernet Adapter Properties' window,click the
'Advanced' tag.
There is only one 'Duplex Mode' item in the Properties field and there
are 2 items in the Values fields i.e. 'Half Duplex(Default)' and 'Full
Duplex'. You can change the Duplex mode to be Full Duplex.
Note:The AcerLAN ALN-201 doesn't support Auto-Negotitation,so if the
adapter is intended to connected to Ethernet Switch with Full-Duplex
mode,the Switch should be fixed to be Full-Duplex mode.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
