*** Motorola SURFboard Cable Modem USB V2.1.0 Driver Installation ***

This media contains the following files:

* readme.txt
This is a text file that gives instructions on the removal of old USB drivers and/or the 
installation of the Version 2.1.0 USB drivers for the Motorola SURFboard Cable Modem.

* netmotcm.cat
This is the CAT file that contains the WHQL certificate and digital signature.

* netmotcm.inf
This is the information file used during the installation of the USB driver file.

* netmotcm.sys
This is the Version 2.1.0 USB driver file necessary for the operation of the SB4200 using
a USB connection. The 2.1.0 Driver is Microsoft WHQL certified and supported on the following Microsoft Operating systems:

Windows 98
Windows Me
Windows 2000
Windows XP

* Remove.exe
This is an executable that removes any files and registry entries from a previous SB410x
USB driver installation.





********* Instructions on the Installation of Version 2.1.0 USB Drivers *************

Refer to the User's Guide found on the Motorola CD-ROM enclosed with the Motorola SURFboard
Cable Modem for powering up, cable hookup of the cable modem, and ethernet installation.

For USB driver installation refer to the following instructions for the appropriate 
operating system.
 

Ensure the media (diskette or CDROM) that contains the above files is inserted into the 
P.C.


**** Windows 98 and Windows Me:

If a Motorola SURFboard Cable Modem was previously installed (successfully or unsuccessfully),
disconnect the USB cable from the SURFboard cable modem. Using Windows Explorer, go to the
drive that has the media that contains the 2.1.0 drivers and begin with Step 1.

If this is a new install, ensure the SB410x has completed power on, plug the USB cable
into the P.C and into the cable modem and start with Step 4.

1. Go to the drive with the new drivers and double click on the "Remove.exe" icon.

2. From the "SURFboard Cable Modem USB Driver Removal" window, click on the "Remove Driver" tab.

Note: Depending on the files found by the removal utility, you may see errors during the removal
process. This is acceptable.

3. After the removal process is completed, "Exit" from the "SURFboard Cable Modem USB Driver Removal"
application and plug the USB cable into the cable modem. If the cable was not removed prior
to running the "Remove" utility, unplug it and plug it back in. Ensure the cable modem is
powered on. This will initiate Microsoft's "New Hardware Found" process.

4. Click "Next" on the "Add New Hardware" window.

5. Ensure "Search for the best driver for your device" is selected and click "Next".
Note: Windows Me automatically will find the 2.1.0 driver on the media you loaded and
you can skip to Step 10. For Windows 98, proceed to Step 6.

6. Select the drive which contains the new Motorola 2.1.0 drivers (Floppy disk drives, or CD-ROM drive). 
Ensure only one is selected. Click "Next".

7. The next window asks "What do you want to install?" and states "The updated driver (Recommended)
Motorola SURFboard 4200 USB Cable Modem". Ensure this is the item selected and click "Next".

8. The next window should have found the "NETMOTCM.INF" file on your diskette or CD-ROM. Click
"Next".

9. You may be prompted to load the Windows 98 CD-ROM for additional Microsoft files that are required. Load
the Windows 98 CD-ROM and continue the install.

10. When prompted, click the "Finish" button, and  "Restart" your P.C.

11. After the P.C is restarted, it may be necessary to run "winipcfg.exe" in order to get an
IP address. Run "winipcfg.exe" and ensure the "Motorola USB Cable Modem" is selected. Click
the "Release" button and then the "Renew" button in order to get an IP address.



**** Windows Windows XP

If a Motorola SURFboard Cable Modem was previously installed (successfully or unsuccessfully),
ensure the USB cable from the SURFboard cable modem IS CONNECTED to the PC and the cable modem.
Uninstall the SURFboard USB Cable Modem using the Windows Device Manager beginning at Step 1.
If this is a new install proceed to Step 10.

1. Right click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties".

2. In the "System Properties Window", click on the "Hardware" tab.

3. Click on the button "Device Manager".

4. Under "Network Adaptors", right click on the "Motorola SURFboard 4100 USB Cable Modem"
and choose "Uninstall".

5. Unplug the USB cable from the cable modem.

6. Using Windows Explorer, go to the drive that has the media that contains the 2.0.0 drivers 
and the "Remove" utility.

7. Double click on the "Remove.exe" icon.

8. From the "SURFboard Cable Modem USB Driver Removal" window, click on the "Remove Driver" tab.

Note: Depending on the files found by the removal utility, you may see errors during the removal
process. This is acceptable.

9.  After the removal process is completed, "Exit" from the "SURFboard Cable Modem USB Driver Removal"
application and plug the USB cable into the cable modem. If the cable was not removed prior
to running the "Remove" utility, unplug it and plug it back in. Ensure the cable modem is
powered on. This will initiate Microsoft's "Found New Hardware" process.

10. Ensure that the media that contains the new driver files is inserted in the appropriate
drive.

11. The "Found New Hardware" wizard will ask if you wish to "Install the software 
automatically (Recommended)". Ensure that is the only item selected and click "Next".

12. When the "Completing the New Hardware Wizard" window appears, click "Finish".

13. In some cases you may have to request an IP address. Open up a "command" window,
and type:

c:\ipconfig /release
<enter>
ipconfig /renew
<enter>
 


**** Windows Windows 2000

If a Motorola SURFboard Cable Modem was previously installed (successfully or unsuccessfully),
ensure the USB cable from the SURFboard cable modem IS CONNECTED to the PC and the cable modem.
Uninstall the SURFboard USB Cable Modem using the Windows Device Manager beginning at Step 1.
If this is a new install proceed to Step 10.

10. Ensure that the media that contains the new driver files is inserted in the appropriate
drive.

11. The "Found New Hardware" wizard will appear. Click "Next".

12. Be sure "Search for a suitable driver for my device" is selected and click "Next".

13. Select the drive which contains the new Motorola 2.1.0 drivers (Floppy disk drives, or CD-ROM drive). 
Ensure only one is selected. Click "Next".

14. The new driver is located. Click "Next".

15. Click "Finish" to complete the installation.

16. In some cases you may have to request an IP address. Open up a "command" window,
and type:

c:\ipconfig /release
<enter>
ipconfig /renew
<enter>

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
