Presario 1600/1800 QuikDock NIC Driver Installation Note before installing the QuikDock NIC driver, you must enable your QuikDock NIC by turning it upside down and sliding the switch to the ON (1) position. Driver Upgrade (Win98 only) If you have previously installed the QuikDock NIC driver for Windows 98, you must uninstall the diver before install the new driver. To uninstall the old driver, complete the following steps. 1.Power up you Presario notebook computer. 2.Insert upgrade driver disk into floppy drive. Note the driver disk must be created with Softpaq from Compaq website. 3.From Start menu, select Run and in the Open field, enter a:uninstall_98, then click OK. 4.The un-installation will execute and prompt you restart the system. Click OK. Windows 98 Installation 1.Connect the QuikDock to the computer. The Add New Hardware Wizard will open to guide you through the installation process. 2.Click Next. Select the Search for the best driver for your device option, which is the recommended selection. 3.Click Next. Insert the driver floppy disk created with Softpaq from Compaq website, and select the Floppy drive option. 4.Click Next. The Wizard will search the specified location (floppy drive) for the device driver and confirm when it has located the driver. 5.Select The updated driver (Recommended) option, and then click Next twice. The Wizard will locate the SMSC USB networking device (WDM) on the floppy disk and install the best driver for the device. 6.Click Finish to complete the installation and exit the Wizard. 7.Once the WDM networking driver has been installed, the Add New Hardware Wizard will open to guide you through the installation for the NDIS 5 driver. 8.Click Next. Select the Search for the best driver for your device option, and then click Next. 9.Select the Floppy disk drive option, and then click Next twice. The Wizard will locate the SMSC USB networking device (NDIS 5) driver and install it to the hard disk. 10.Click Finish. The System Settings Change dialog box will prompt you to restart the computer to compete the installation. 11.Click the Yes button to restart and finish setting up your new hardware. This process may take a few minutes. Windows 2000 Installation 1.Connect the QuikDock to the computer. The Found New Hardware Wizard will open to guide you through the installation process. 2.Click Next. Select the Search for a suitable driver for my device option, which is the recommended selection. 3.Click Next. Insert the driver floppy disk created with Softpaq from Compaq website, and select the Floppy drive option. 4.Click Next. The Wizard will search the specified location (floppy drive) for the device driver and confirm when it has located the driver. 5.Select The updated driver (Recommended) option, and then click Next twice. The Wizard will locate the SMSC USB networking device (WDM) on the floppy disk and install the best driver for the device. 6.Click Finish to complete the installation and exit the Wizard. 7.Once the WDM networking driver has been installed, the Found New Hardware Wizard will open to guide you through the installation for the NDIS 5 driver. 8.Click Next. Select the Search for a suitable driver for my device option, and then click Next. 9.Select the Floppy disk drive option, and then click Next twice. The Wizard will locate the SMSC USB networking device (NDIS 5) driver and install it to the hard disk. 10.Click Finish to complete the installation.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
