Noteworthy ZV Port/MPEG-1 Playback PC Card This file is a reference to known limitations in the ZV Port/MPEG-1 playback software. EXPERIENCING ANY VIDEO PROBLEMS =============================== The ZV Port/MPEG-1 playback card relies very heavily on your video controller and video drivers. Since this is such a new product and new technology, it is possible that your system's video drivers need to be updated. So, if you are experiencing any problem with "pink" screens, resuming under Windows for Workgroups 3.x, or other video related problems, you will need to update your video drivers. Please contact your computer manufacturer to get the latest drivers. For Toshiba notebooks, these can be downloaded from the following sources: Internet: http://pcsupport.tais.com Compuserve: Go Toshiba BBS: (714) 837-4408 The Windows95 video driver version needed is C&T Ver. 4.0 (Adapter Type : Chips and Tech. 65550 PCI) or newer The WFW 3.11 video driver version needed is C&T Ver. 1.4 or newer. Please make sure to reboot the system after any vieo driver update. VIDEO SETTINGS ============== It is recommended due to performance and quality limitations that your system be configured to 256 color mode during playback. The software may allow playback at 16-bit (32K/64K) color modes, but there could be some visible corruption. The specification is for running in a 256 color environment only, but we are allowing the user to do playback at higher color depths and verify the quality for themselves. 256 COLOR MODE ERROR MESSAGE ============================ If you are getting an error message stating that you need to be in 256 color mode and you already are in 256 color mode, you'll need to re-install your video drivers. There is a file that is not installed on your system. Refer to the above note regarding video problems and download the latest video drivers to correct this problem. HOT SWAPPING ============= Intermittently, cards inserted in the slots on the system after a suspend and resume are not recognized by Card and Socket Services. This is a Card and Socket Services problem and you may experience it with the ZV Port/MPEG-1 Playback PC Card as well as other PC Cards. MPEG PLAYBACK =============== Some higher data rate MPEGs will not playback without skipping. 2.4Megabits/second or higher appear to have this limitation. Some MPEG clips have been found to have a skipping problem; frames get dropped and the audio will skip. The problem has been found on clips from Lumivision Corporation. This problem was not found with any REALmagic titles that were tested. USING THE CD-ROM ================= Do not eject the CD-ROM by pressing the button on the drive during MPEG playback. Doing so causes the MPEG decoder to lose control and cause either the system to hang or make it necessary to restart CD Station or Media Player to start MPEG-1 playback correctly. Some titles when ejected during playback will cause the mouse cursor to disappear. TRYING TO PLAY MPEG WITHOUT THE ZV PORT CARD ============================================== Once the ZV Port / MPEG-1 Playback software is installed, software MPEG cannot occur unless it is selected manually by using Media Player to play the .MPG file. CONTROLLING SOUND =================== The sound is not controlled through the ZV Port/MPEG-1 software. Any volume settings need to be set using either the operating system's sound control or the sound system utilities. *end of readme.txt TAIS/CSE/Accessories Engineering July 25, 1996Download Driver Pack
