Release Notes for AX4200A/B Isolated Dual Channel RS422/485 Interface Card for
PCI Bus

This document contains release notes for AX4200.
Information in this document is more current than that in the manuals or
online Help.

Open this document in Windows Write, Microsoft Word, PE2 or another text

Release Notes for AX4200 device driver Version 1.00

On AX4200 there is no DIP switch for setting I/O and no jumper for setting IRQ.
For PCI card, these resouces will be assigned by PCI BIOS automatically.

For Windows 95/98 Users:

To install your hardware, do:

1. Turn off your system

2. Plug in your PCI card.

3. Restart your system.

4. When Windows 95 detects this new hardware, a dialog box saying "New
hardware    found" will appear.

5. Select "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer". Insert this
   driver disk. Enter correct directory informations, e.g. "A:\WIN95" and click
   OK.

6. Driver will be installed to your computer.

Now, you may continue with below configuration instructions:

1. From Windows 95\Start\Settings\Control Panel\System\Device Manager,
   select [Axiomtek RS422/485\Axiomtek AX4200 RS422/485 PCI Card]. Click on Properties
   button or double click [Axiomtek AX4200 RS422/485 PCI Card], then select
   Settings tab.

2. Use this dialog to set your COM No.

3. Then select [...\Device Manager\Port (COM & LPT)]. See if COM No. of
   [Axiomtek Port 1] and [Axiomtek Port 2] is correct. If not correct, please click
   on Refresh button.

5. For further setting, select [Axiomtek Port 1] and click on Properties button.
   Repeat it for [Axiomtek Port 2].

6. Satisfy with your settings. Reboot your system.

Now you may access/program AX4200 with Win32 API function call or other
compatible program.

To remove your hardware, do:

1. Click Windows 95\Start\Settings\Control Panel\System\Device Manager

2. Select [Axiomtek RS422/485\Axiomtek AX4200 RS422/485 PCI Card]. Click on Remove
   button.

3. Shutdown your computer.

4. Unplug your PCI Card.


For Windows NT Users:

To install your hardware, do:

1. Turn off your system.

2. Plug in your PCI card.

3. Restart your system.

4. In Control Panel, click on [Network] icon. Then click on [Adapters] tab.

5. Select [Add] button. Then select [Have disks ...].

6. Insert this driver diskette. Enter correct directory informations, e.g.
   "A:\WINNT" and click OK.

7. Select [Axiomtek AX4200/PCI Adapter]. Click OK.

8. Then corresponding driver files will be copied to your computer.

9. Double click [Axiomtek AX4200/PCI Adapter] or click on [Properties..] button.

10. A dialog box will appear. Use this dialog box to configure your COM port.

11. Satisfy with your settings. Reboot your computer.


Now you may access/program AX4200 with Win32 API function call or other
compatible program.

To remove your hardware, do:

1. Click ..\Control Panel\Network\Adapters

2. Select [Axiomtek AX4200/PCI Adapter]. Click on Remove button.

3. Shutdown your computer.

4. Unplug your PCI Card.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
