Release Note for WG511 Software Release 3.0

Features

1.  Fixed Netgear and chip vendor ID issue.  Previousely, the driver had incompatible issue with some WG511 cards.  This was caused by the chip vendor removed its ID from Microsoft. 

2. Add support to save and switch profile between all the user accounts (including non-administrator accounts)  on Windows XP Home & Professional (including SP2) and Windows 2000 Professional.

(Note 1)  Users with  limited accounts cannot always install programs and might need administrator privileges to install it.
(Note 2)   Windows 2000 Server is not supported.

Installation Instructions If Upgrading a Previous Installation

Download and unzip WG511v300.zip to a convenient folder. 
Select Start > Programs > Wg511 Smart Wizard > Uninstall NETGEAR WG511 Software. 
Run the removal utility, and complete the instructions to complete the removal. 
Run the version 3.0 installer, which is WG511v300.exe.
Follow the instructions to complete the installation. 
For Windows 98SE and Windows Me, reboot the computer. 

Installation Instructions If Doing a First Time Install

(DO NOT physically insert the WG511 adapter into your desktop yet)

1. Download and unzip WG511v300.zip to a convenient folder.
2. Run WG511v300.exe.
3. Follow the instructions to complete the installation. 
4. Physically plug in the WG511 PC adapter into the PCMCIA slot in you laptop.
5.  Follow the instructions to complete the installation.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
