       CREATIVE CD-ROM INSTALLATION : Latest Information
       =================================================

This file contains information not available during the printing of 
the manual.  Please read its contents before you proceed with the 
installation procedure.

This file contains the following sections :

   1. Running the Installation Program

1. RUNNING THE INSTALLATION PROGRAM

   The installation program allows you to set up your CD-ROM drive under 
   Windows 3.1/DOS or Windows 95.

   To set up your drive in Windows 3.1/DOS, run INSTALL.EXE at the DOS prompt.

   To set up your drive in Windows 95, run SETUP.EXE in  Windows 95.


2. USING CREATIVE IDE CD-ROM DRIVE IN MSDOS MODE

   Note: Read this section only if you are using a Windows 95 based system.

   When you open a MSDOS mode session in Windows 95, the system will close 
   all other active Windows-based or MS-DOS based programs. You can return 
   to Windows by typing exit. 

   There are two ways you can open a MS-DOS mode session.

   I).  Shutdown the system and choose the Restart the computer in MSDOS 
        mode option.

   II). Change your MSDOS prompt properties by checking the MSDOS mode box 
        under the Advanced Program Settings. You can specify if you want 
        to use the current MSDOS configuration, or specify a new 
        configuration.

   Under MSDOS mode, you need the drivers for DOS to be loaded. The 
   installation program will modify the DOSSTART.BAT file located in the 
   Windows directory so as to load your CD-ROM driver under DOS, when you 
   shutdown to MSDOS mode.

   The following lines are added to the DOSSTART.BAT.

   C:\<dir>\Dosdrv\CTLOAD C:\<dir>\Dosdrv\SBIDE.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:1E8,11,3EE

   C:\<win95dir>\Command\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 /V /M:8 

   Remarks:

	 a. <dir> is your target installation directory.
	 b. <win95dir> is the Windows 95 directory.

   If you choose to go to MSDOS mode by changing the MSDOS prompt properties
   and choosing a new configuration, you need to add the following lines 
   to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

   C:\<win95dir>\CTCM

   C:\<dir>\CTLOAD C:\<dir>\Drv\SBIDE.SYS  /D:MSCD001 /V /P:1E8,11,3EE

   C:\<win95dir>\Command\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 /V /M:8 

   Remarks:

	 a. <dir> is your target installation directory.

   Note: If the filename of your target directory is more than 8 characters 
   (i.e. you are using the long filename feature of Windows 95), the filename 
   must be shortened, as required for DOS.

   E.g., If your target directory is "Program Files", then you need to refer 
   to it as PROGRA~1. This is because MSDOS has a restriction on the length 
   of the filename and directory name.

	 b. <win95dir> is the Windows 95 directory.


3. UPDATING DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS 95

To update the drivers required for Windows 95:

a. In the Control Panel folder, double-click the System icon to show the 
   System Properties dialog box.

b. Select the Device Manager tab in the System Properties dialog box.

c. Double-click the appropriate item e.g. "Sound, video and game controllers" 
   to display the devices installed in your system.

d. Double-click the device you wish to update (For example Creative Labs 
   Sound Blaster 16 or AWE-32).The Properties dialog box of the selected 
   device appears.

e. Select the Driver tab in the Properties dialog box and choose Change Driver. 
   The Select Device dialog box appears.

f. Choose Have Disk in the Select Device dialog box.  
   The Install From Disk dialog box appears.

g. Enter the path where the new drivers are located and choose OK. 
   The Select Device dialog box appears.

h. Choose OK to return to the Properties dialog box.

i. Choose OK to exit the Properties dialog box.
   The drivers will be copied to your Windows directory.

j. Choose Close to exit the System Properties dialog box.
   The System Settings Change dialog box appears.

k. Choose OK to restart your system.
	  

4. MSCDEX.EXE DRIVER

   To use your CD-ROM drive under Windows 3.1 or DOS, the Microsoft CD-ROM 
   extension driver (MSCDEX.EXE) must be loaded.

   The installation allows you to search for this driver in your system. 
   It will then copy this driver to your <dir>\DRV directory and place 
   a command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to load this driver when your system 
   boots up.

     Note : <dir> is your target installation directory.

   If you do not have the MSCDEX.EXE driver in your system, option 2 allows 
   you to add a remarked statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  If you do so, 
   you will then need to obtain this driver from your vendor and copy it to 
   your <dir>\DRV sub-directory.  Finally, remember to remove "REM" from the 
   command that loads the MSCDEX.EXE driver in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
