Read Me - Zoom V.92 PCI Driver Version 173.038
	  Setup for Windows XP

If the Zoom PCI modem is currently installed in your computer, follow the DRIVER UPGRADE INSTALLATION steps below.  

If you are installing the modem for the first time, skip to STAND-ALONE DRIVER INSTALLATION.



DRIVER UPGRADE INSTALLATION 

1. If the NetWaiting (modem-on-hold) program is enabled on your computer, right-click on the yellow telephone icon in the system tray and select Exit.  

2. Go to Start | Control Panel | Phone and Modem Options (or Network and Internet Connections and then Phone and Modem Options, if you are in Category View).

3. Click the Modems tab.

4. Double-click on Zoom V.92 PCI Faxmodem.

5. Click the Drivers tab.

6. Click Update Driver. The Hardware Update Wizard appears.

7. Windows may prompt you to connect to Windows Update. Select "No, not at this time," and click Next.

8. Ignore the message regarding the installation CD or floppy disk. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)," and click Next.

9. Select "Include this location in the search." (Make sure that no other options are selected.)       

10. Click Browse. 

11. Select the "WinXP_038" folder, and click OK.

12. Click Next. 

13. When the driver update has finished, click Finish.

14. Restart your computer.

To verify that the modem's driver has been successfully updated:
 a) Go to Start | Control Panel | Phone and Modem Options (or Network and Internet Connections and then Phone and Modem Options, if you are in Category View).
 b) Click the Modems tab.
 c) Double-click on Zoom V.92 PCI Voice Faxmodem.	 
 d) Click the Diagnostics tab.
 e) Click the Query Modem button.
 f) You should get a list of Commands and Responses. Scroll down to ATI3. If the ATI3 response is 173.038.000.000, your modem's driver was successfully updated.



STAND-ALONE DRIVER INSTALLATION
 
1. Install the modem hardware. Refer to the modem's manual if necessary.

2. The Found New Hardware Wizard appears. Windows may prompt you to connect to Windows Update. Select "No, not at this time," and click Next.

3. Ignore the message regarding the installation CD or floppy disk. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)," and click Next.

4. Select "Include this location in the search." (Make sure that no other options are selected.)       

5. Click Browse. 

6. Select the "WinXP_038" folder, and click OK.

7. Click Next. 

8. When the driver installation has finished, click Finish.

9. Restart your computer.

To verify that the modem's driver has been successfully updated:
 a) Go to Start | Control Panel | Phone and Modem Options (or Network and Internet Connections and then Phone and Modem Options, if you are in Category View).
 b) Click the Modems tab.
 c) Double-click on Zoom V.92 PCI Voice Faxmodem.	 
 d) Click the Diagnostics tab.
 e) Click the Query Modem button.
 f) You should get a list of Commands and Responses. Scroll down to ATI3. If the ATI3 response is 173.038.000.000, your modem's driver was successfully updated.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
