****************************************************** ! ! ! RELEASE OF FILESAFE TAPE SOFTWARE VERSION 4.5-MT ! ! ! ****************************************************** All new enhancements are explained in the Tape Software Manual. PROS AND CONS OF VERIFICATION ----------------------------- Your TAPE software offers a verify option which is set to YES by default. While a verify pass as part of a backup does increase the total time to perform a backup (approximately doubling the time), it is an important operation to perform, at least periodically, to ensure both the tape drive and the computer are functioning without error. The tape drive performs a read-after-write operation (in which data recorded to tape is immediately re-read and compared against buffers in memory and on the tape drive). However, if data was "scrambled" while being transferred through the computer memory to the tape drive (due to a failure of the computers Direct Memory Access (DMA) chip, or, if applicable, a network interface), the read-after-write operation will not catch the error. Running a verify pass during backups will catch such errors. NOTES ON NEW VIRTUAL DISK SUPPORT --------------------------------- A new feature which allows using virtual disk during selective tape operations of large directory structures (10,000+ directories and files) creates up to two temporary files on the disk assigned by the operator. These are $MEMORY1.TMP and $MEMORY2.TMP. If the TAPE software is abnormally aborted (e.g., the system is rebooted during a tape operation), these files are not deleted by the TAPE software. You may wish to manually delete them using the DOS DEL or ERASE commands. This new feature will NOT support selectively restoring from a full (image) backup of a large directory structure. Such a backup may need to be restored in increments if an insufficient memory error occurs. Therefore, if you are backing up large directory structures, we recommend using selective backup. NETWARE USERS ------------- Under Novell, if you are backing up multiple servers in a single network, you must be logged to a disk on the server you are going to backup. You may specify a search path to a disk on another server if that is where the TAPE software is installed. Example: Server 1 contains the TAPE software and you are attached to Server 2. As part of the login script for server 2, a search drive has been mapped for drive M: to point to the tape directory (e.g., MAP S3:=SYS:/MTN_TAPE, the directory containing the TAPE software). To backup Server 2, log to a drive assigned to a Server 2 volume (e.g., if H: is mapped to Server 2, then switch to H: prior to starting the TAPE program). COMMAND LINE OPERATIONS ----------------------- Caution: an unfortunate feature of the command line options causes the TAPE_DTE.DAT file to be updated during selective backup if *.*/s is used as a parameter. For example, TAPE SBK C:\DOS\*.*/S would backup only the files in the \DOS directory and its subdirectories, but would incorrectly set the current date as the last date of complete backup. This would cause use of the "Backup of modified files by archive bit or since" option to miss files dated between the current date and the last full (or complete selective) backup. Use one of the forms: TAPE SBK C:\DOS/S or TAPE SBK C:\DOS\/S instead, which do not modify the TAPE_DTE.DAT file.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
