Perfection 636U TWAIN USB Driver Installation Instructions



1) Make sure the scanner is connected to the host computer and turned on.

2) Open Scanners and Cameras in Control Panel. In the Devices property sheet highlight the Epson Perfection 636 and click on the Remove button to delete it.

3) Open Explorer and navigate to the Windows\INF folder. Remove ESCANFB.INF.

4) In Explorer navigate to Windows\TWAIN. Remove the folder and its contents. Navigate to the Windows\TWAIN_32 folder. Remove the folder and its contents.

5) In Explorer navigate to the C:\Windows folder and remove ESTWN323.ini, Epscan2.INI, TWAIN.log and any TWUNKxxx.MTX files.

6) In Explorer navigate to Windows\System32\Drivers. Remove USBSCAN.SYS.

7) Turn off the scanner and reboot the computer.

8) When the computer is completely rebooted, then turn on the scanner. Windows should detect new hardware, that is, a new USB device. An Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box should pop up.
 
9) Insert the floppy diskette with the files you copied from the P636U310 folder. Click Next.

10) When you are prompted to specify the location of the driver files, put a checkmark next to the Floppy Disk Drives setting and type A:\ in the Specify a location field. Make sure CD ROM drive is not checked. Click Next.

11) Follow the dialog boxes to complete the installation. You will be prompted to insert the Windows 98 CD that came with your computer so have it handy when you do this installation.

12) If the Calibration Screen utility does not launch during the driver installation, navigate to Scanners and Cameras in Control Panel after you have finished installing the driver. Double click on the Epson Perfection 636. Click on the Utilities tab and click on the Screen Calibration icon to run the program.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
