INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROXIM OPENAIR PC CARD IN COMPAQ iPAQ

INTRODUCTION
=============

This README file describes how to install the Proxim PC Card driver on a Compaq iPAQ
H3000 Series Pocket PC.

DRIVER REQUIREMENTS
===================

To use this driver, you must have one of the Proxim OpenAir PC Card listed above and a
Compaq iPAQ H3000 Series Pocket PC with a PC Card expansion pack.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
=========================

Follow these steps to install driver version 2.2-B8p on a Compaq iPAQ:

1. Download the file CF_IPAQ_PC_22B8P.ZIP from Proxim's Web site and extract out the
PROXIM.DLL driver file.

2. Copy the PROXIM.DLL file to the hard drive of a Windows 95/98/NT/2000 computer that
has an ActiveSync partnership with the Windows CE device.

3. If already inserted, remove the Proxim PC Card from the iPAQ's PCMCIA before
proceeding. Turn on the iPAQ once the PC Card has been removed.

4. Establish an ActiveSync connection between the computer and the iPAQ over a serial
cable, a USB cable, or an infrared link.

5. Within the Microsoft ActiveSync window, click <Explore> to view the file contents
of the Mobile Device.

6. Click the "My Pocket PC" icon and open the Pocket PC's Windows directory.

7. Copy the PROXIM.DLL file to the Windows directory on the Pocket PC. Click <OK> if
prompted that Microsoft ActiveSync may need to convert the file. If prompted that the
system already contains a PROXIM.DLL file, click <OK> to overwrite the existing file
with the new driver.

NOTE:
Refer to the documentation that shipped with the iPAQ for instructions on how to create
an ActiveSync connection and copy files to a Pocket PC.

8. Terminate the ActiveSync connection.

9. Insert a Proxim OpenAir PC Card into the Windows CE device's PCMCIA slot.

10. When prompted to enter the name of the driver for the Unrecognized Card, enter
"proxim" and click <OK> to continue.

The Proxim Status Monitor icon will load in the System Tray (visible in the Today
screen only), and then the PROXIM Harmony Driver screen will appear.

11. If the PROXIM Harmony Driver screen appears, proceed to Step #16. If the PROXIM
Harmony Driver screen does not appear, proceed to Step #12.

12. Reset the Pocket PC. The reset button is located on the bottom of the iPAQ.
Refer to the documentation that came with your device for more information.

13. Tap the Start icon, located in the upper left-hand side of the Pocket PC’s screen,
and select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.

14. Tap the "Connections" tab and choose the "Network" icon.

15. Double-tap the "PROXIM Harmony Driver" entry in the list of installed adapters.

16. Configure the TCP/IP settings for the OpenAir PC Card.

NOTE:
Contact your network administrator for information about your network’s IP addressing
scheme.

--If you have a DHCP server on the network, select "Use server-assigned IP address".
The PC Card will obtain an IP address automatically from a DHCP server the next time
the Proxim driver is reset.

--Select the "Use specific IP address" option if you want to assign static IP
information and enter an IP address, Subnet mask, and Default Gateway in the fields
provided.

--Select the Name Servers tab and configure the DNS and WINS server addresses, if
applicable.

--If you do not have a WINS server on the network but you want to create a wireless
ActiveSync connection over the network, enter the host computer’s IP address in the
WINS field.

17. Tap <OK> twice to return to the Network Connections page and tap the
"Identification" tab.

18. Enter a User Name, Password, and Domain in the fields provided if these settings
are required to access network resources. Contact your network administrator for
assistance.

19. Tap the "Start" icon and select "Today" from the drop-down list.

20. Double-tap the Status Monitor icon to launch the Proxim Status screen.

21. Configure the card's Domain and Security ID so that it will communicate with
your OpenAir network.

22. Tap <OK> to close the Proxim Status screen.

The Proxim Status utility will now reset the card’s parameters. Be patient while the
driver reloads; this can take up to 20 seconds.

23. Tap <OK> when prompted that the new settings will take effect the next time the
adapter is used.

24. Reset the Pocket PC for these changes to take effect.

25. The Proxim OpenAir PC Card is now ready for use.

NOTE:
If you configured the card to use DHCP and you are prompted that the card cannot
obtain an IP address from a DHCP server, try resetting the iPAQ.
