Installing the OR Client PC Driver on Windows XP
-----------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------
              Overview
--------------------------------------
1. Standard Installation
2. Upgrading an existing 802.11 driver

NOTE:
Some computer manufacturers that ship computers with a
factory installed version of the Microsoft Windows XP
operating system, often include a PC Card wizard, that
enables 'Plug & Play' for the Windows XP operating
system. If your computer automatically detects the new
card, you may skip the following section and turn to
  'Enabling Network Support'.

--------------------------------------
1. Standard Installation
--------------------------------------

To install this driver on Windows XP, perform the following
steps:

1. Insert your PC Card into your laptop or desktop system.
2. Depending on the type of card you have inserted, Windows
XP should automatically detect and install the 802.11-only
driver that shipped with Windows XP. If so, allow the
default driver installation to proceed until finished.
This step should take less than two minutes.
3. After Windows XP has completed installation of the default
802.11 driver, proceed with the instructions for upgrading
   an existing 802.11 driver.

2. Upgrading an existing 802.11 driver

To update an existing driver installation Windows XP, perform
the following steps:

 1. Open the Windows XP Control Panel and run the "System"
    control panel applet.
 2. In the "System" control panel, select the "Hardware" tab,
and then click on the "Device Manager" button.
 3. Once "Device Manager" has been launched, click on the "+"
sign next to the "Network Adapters" node to list all
currently installed network adapters. Your ORiNOCO PC Card
    should be listed there.

specific location (Advanced)" and then click "Next".
 6. On the second screen, select "Don't search. I will choose
the driver to install." and then click "Next".
 7. On the "Select Network Adapter" (third) screen, click on
    the "Have Disk" button.
 8. In the "Install From Disk" screen, browse to or enter the
path where you unzipped the OR Client PC Driver for Windows
XP files. After clicking "OK" in the Install From Disk
screen, you will return to the "Select Network Adapter"
    screen.
 9. Click "Next", and Windows XP will display a warning
message telling you that the driver is not digitally

Windows XP will finish the installation.
11. IMPORTANT: If the Windows installer prompts you with a
message saying "The target file exists and is newer than
the source file." Click "Yes" to overwrite the currently
    existing file.
12. When installation is complete, Windows XP will display a
final message saying that "The wizard has finished
installing the software for..." the ORiNOCO PC Card.
Click "Finish" to finish installing your driver.
13. !!!IMPORTANT!!!
Windows XP contains a new feature that enables the operating
system to control the configuration of the wireless network
card. Since Windows XP does not know how to set up the
radio card to work in TurboCell mode, it is imperative that
you perform the following steps after installing the driver:
    a. Open up the Windows operating system Control Panel
    b. Open the 'Network Connections' control panel applet
    c. Right-click on the 'Wireless Network Connection' icon,
and select the 'Properties' selection. The icon will
not appear unless your radio card is inserted.
    d. In the 'Wireless Network Connection Properties' screen,
       select the 'Wireless Networks' tab.
    e. In the 'Wireless Networks' tab, make sure that you
DISABLE (unselect) the checkbox that reads
'Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings'
    f. Once you have disabled the above checkbox, click OK
to return to the Network Connections screen.

Once you have installed the software for the OR Client PC
Driver, and prevented Windows from automatically determining your
wireless network settings, you should install the Client Manager,
and configure your OR Client network settings. You can set up
the OR Client PC Driver without the Client Manager by opening
the "Wireless Network" control panel applet.
