1. Introduction
The Public Access Wireless AP is part of a wireless Internet public
access infrastructure. It functions as a wireless network public
access point to the Internet or other data networks. As clients move
from one coverage cell to another, Public Access Wireless AP units
automatically perform client handovers within the same subnet. The
system provides:
- Easy installation and operation
- Automatic client handover
- Over-the-air encryption of data
- High-speed links to the Internet
Access Point management is provided through CLI (Command Line
Interface), Standard Web based Interface, and SNMP (Simple
Network Management Protocol). You can use any of these
management interfaces to view and adjust the Access Point's
parameter settings.

4. Software Description
4.1 Software
The software files are:
- start.exe - A program executable that starts the CD wizard.
Also, there is now an autorun.inf that initiates the start.exe
at CD insertion time.
- AP\Scantool.exe -The Scan & Change utility that can be used
to discover and initialize the Public Access Wireless AP (see
Installation Notes).
- AP\Setup.exe - A self extracting zip file that installs the
files mentioned above and the additional files below in
the ORiNOCO_Wireless folder on the user's PC:
DOCS folder \Docs
HELP folder \Help
MIB folder \MIB
4.2 XTRAs Folder
In the AP\XTRAs\Solarwinds folder we include a TFTP server
(OEM-TFTP-Server.EXE) and Adobe Acrobat that may be installed on
the user's PC for downloading and uploading files to and from the
Public Access Wireless AP. It comes with help documentation included
in the application when it is executed.
4.3 SSL_KEY folder
In the SSL_KEY folder we include a copy of the cacert.pem
certificate which, in some cases, may need to be uploaded to the AP
in order to enable SSL.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Installation Notes
The initial release of the Public Access Wireless AP software comes
packaged with a CD wizard. The CD wizard was created to provide a
graphical user interface for easy software installation, cd browsing,
and document/help viewing, etc.
This release includes a Scantool.exe application that may be
used from your PC to scan the local subnet to discover, scan,
and change the IP address of an Public Access Wireless AP. See the
Public Access Wireless AP User Guide for instructions on using the
tool.
Also, a TFTP server is included in the AP\Xtras\Solarwinds
folder for use in downloading and uploading files to and
from the Public Access Wireless AP from a TFTP server. Double-click
on "OEM-TFTP-Server.exe" to install the software.
5.1 If you are unsing the installation CD:
Insert the Installation CD in your CD-ROM drive and the autorun
facility will start the CD wizard which will guide you through the
installation process.
5.2 System Requirements
You must have an Public Access Wireless AP and Wireless PC card that
is compatible with the AP and a PC to install and manage the AP.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Known Issues
SSL: In some cases, after following the procedure detailed in the user guide to
activate SSL, the "Enable SSL" setting will be disabled and the checkbox will be
cleared. If this happens, download the file "cacert.pem" (located in the \SSL_KEY
directory on the CD image, and the \Program Files\Wireless\Public Access Wireless AP
\SSL_KEY directory if you have run the Setup program from the CD) using the procedure
that is described in the section "Enabling SSL on the Public Access Wireless AP" of the
access point user guide. (This is the same procedure that is used to download the
"cakey.pem" and "server.pem" files.)
Menu Item: Subscriber-->Error Msgs 1 "Access point blocked subscriber access"
field does not accept text.(14343)
The administrator of the AP will not be able to customize the default
error message that ultimately will be displayed to the user when this error
condition is encountered.
Menu Item: PublicSpace-->HPR With "Enable Home Page Redirection" enabled and
"Enable Parameter Passing" enabled, and the user enters. (12851)
For example, url http://www.gmu.edu/today/findex.html,
then the value of OS is 129.74.1.52. So the URL is translated to an IP address,
and /today/findex.html is completely dropped. Only the root directory of URLs
can be entered, http://www.gmu.edu, and not subdirectories at this time.
If the user selects any plan from the pull down menu of the ICC popup window ,
the user gets prompted to confirm the change . If the user closes
this window , the Plan selection pull down menu gets grayed out and
doesn't function anymore. Also , the Logout button stops working.
Similar issue seen when one hits on the Logout button and closes the
Applet window that comes up. The workaround to this is to click on any
of the other links on the ICC e.g. abc123.com and then hit the Logout
button. Now it allows you to logout as well as change plans. (11707)
CLI: accessIPRangeEntryStatus parameter is not in CLI list of parameters
in v1.0.1. List of parameters can be found by using CLI commands
"show ?" and "set ?." (11895)
When a client launches the web browser and the first web page visited is an https
(secure) website, the browser will not be redirected to the main login page. (15090)
