SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS 2.1 Operating System AP CLI Proxy can be installed on Intel Architecture (x86) systems running Red Hat 6.1 Linux. (The executable might also run on systems with similar library and kernel support.) For Telnet access to the AP CLI Proxy, Telnet services (telnetd) need to be installed. 2.2 Free Disk Space The installation of the AP CLI Proxy requires a free disk space of approximately 1.5 MB. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. INSTALLATION NOTES 4.1 Standard Installation To install AP CLI Proxy, unpack the distribution archive in a directory of your choice. Installation in "/opt" is suggested. First become superuser and change to the "/opt" directory: % su Password: <root password> # cd /opt Copy the distribution archive to "/opt" and type: # tar zxvf clili117.tgz # exit This will create a subdirectory called "cliproxy" with all necessary files. To start the program, type: % cd /opt/cliproxy % ./cliproxy To read the online documentation, open the "index.html" file in the "/opt/cliproxy/help" subdirectory using a Web browser. 4.2 Setting up telnet access to the AP CLI Proxy 1) First make sure "telnetd" is installed. 2) Now create a user account that uses the 'cliproxy' as it's default shell using the "useradd" command. To use this command, you need to become superuser using the "su" command. To view the online manual page of "useradd", type: # man useradd Assuming the software is installed in /opt/cliproxy, type: # /usr/sbin/useradd -c "AP CLI Proxy" -d /opt/cliproxy -s /opt/cliproxy/cliproxy cliproxy To give the account a password, type: # passwd cliproxy ... New UNIX password: mypassword ... Retype new UNIX password: mypassword 3) Now you should be able to telnet to your system using "cliproxy" as the username and "mypassword" as the password. To test it from your local machine type: % telnet localhost ... login: cliproxy Password: mypassword ... ------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. TECHNICAL CONSTRAINTS 5.1 Support of new NICs in old Access Points ==================================================== In general, when a new Network Interface Card is inserted in the Access Point which is not yet supported by that version of the Access Point software, the unit will not start-up completely, but will stop while showing an amber LED for the interface which is not operational. In this situation, remove the indicated NIC, restart the unit and upload the latest software to the unit via an older WaveLAN NIC or via the wired side. If the right software is already available, the NIC is probably defect and must be replaced. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.
