This README.TXT covers information that was not yet known or
available when the user documentation shipped with this product
was written. It includes update information, additional
installation instructions, limitations to the current version of
the product, and suggestions to solve known issues or problems.

1.  Software Description

1.1 About this software

    Access Point CLI Proxy Software (AP CLI Proxy) comprises the
     * Access Point Command Line Interface Proxy Software for 
       Windows
     * Access Point Embedded Software (a.k.a. "image" or "kernel"), 
       which can be used to upgrade the AP with the latest software. 
       This is the same embedded software as provided with the AP 
       Manager
     * Documentation in the form of HTML files
  

1.2 Files Installed

    The following software will be installed in the directory
    specified during setup:

    AP CLI Proxy Software for Windows NT:
                                       version 1.17

    AP-1000 / WavePOINT-II Embedded Software:
                                        WPNT395.BIN version 3.95
         Contains "AP Functions firmware Variant 1 Version 8.42"
    AP-500 Embedded Software:           AP05395.BIN version 3.95
         Contains "AP Functions firmware Variant 1 Version 8.42"

                                       WPNTFIX.bin
       This is an intermediate kernel used to download the
       new, larger, executables on older Access Points.

    Default Configurations:
       AP-1000:                        WPNTdflt.cnf
       AP-500:                         AP05dflt.cnf

2.  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Operating System
    AP CLI Proxy can be installed on the Microsoft Windows NT or 
    Windows 2000 Operating System.

    AP CLI Proxy requires Winsock 2 to be installed. 

    For Telnet access to the AP CLI Proxy, Telnet services need to
    be installed.

2.2 Free Disk Space
    The installation of the AP CLI Proxy requires a free disk space
    of approximately 1 MB.

3.  NEW IN THIS RELEASE

3.1 Release 1.17 Spring 2002

     * Includes new kernel versions. Executable is the same as
       Release 1.17 Winter 2002

3.2 Release 1.17 Winter 2002

     * Includes new kernel versions.
     * CLI Proxy executable icon has been changed.
     * CLI proxy is made unbranded.
     * CTRL-C is handled gracefully by the CLI now.

3.3 Release 1.16 Fall 2001

     * Includes new kernel versions. Executable is the same as
       Release 1.16 Summer 2001

3.4 Release 1.16 Summer 2001

     * Uploading of a kernel is only accepted if the hardware 
       matches the kernel version
     * AP list function improved
     * CLI Proxy supports input file redirection     
     * CLI: Cannot upload bin file when typing a long string 
       location path
     * Accessible settings of CLI Proxy synchronized with AP 
       manager
     * Fixed display of 'Interface = any'

3.5 Release 1.00 Spring 2001

    Initial release.

4.  INSTALLATION NOTES

4.1 Standard Installation

    Run Setup.exe to install AP CLI Proxy.
    If it finds older versions of the same program, it will
    overwrite the older program with the new software, but will
    keep your configuration files and old Access Point kernel
    binary files.

4.2 Removing the AP CLI Proxy
    To remove the AP CLI Proxy from your system, proceed
    as follows:
    1) Click the "Start" button on your Windows task bar,
       point to "Settings" and select "Control Panel".
    2) In the Control Panel window, double-click the
       "Add/Remove" icon to display the "Add/Remove
       Program Properties" window.
    3) Scroll down the list of applications in the 
       lower section of the "Install/Uninstall" tab, and
       select the item AP CLI Proxy.
    4  Next click the "Add/Remove" button, and follow the
       instructions on your screen.

5.  TECHNICAL CONSTRAINTS

5.1 Support of new NICs in old Access Points
    ====================================================
    In general, when a new Network Interface Card is inserted in
    the Access Point which is not yet supported by that version of
    the Access Point software, the unit will not start-up
    completely, but will stop while showing an amber LED for the
    interface which is not operational.
    In this situation, remove the indicated NIC, restart the unit
    and upload the latest software to the unit via an older WaveLAN
    NIC or via the wired side. If the right software is already
    available, the NIC is probably defect and must be replaced.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
