   LAN Manager Workstation/Server

   Introduction:
   -------------
   This document describes the procedure to setup Microsoft LAN Manager
   Workstation/Server driver for AcerLAN ALN-201 PCI Ethernet Adapter.

   Location of Driver: \MSLANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\ETHERNET\ALN201\ALN201.DOS


   Sample Configuration Files:

      CONFIG.SYS :

          DEVICE=C:\LANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\PROTMAN\PROTMAN.DOS /I:C:\LANMAN.DOS
          DEVICE=C:\LANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\ETHERNET\ALN201\ALN201.DOS

      PROTOCOL.INI (will contain):

         [ALN201_NIF]
         ; ALN201 RPOTOCOL.INI SAMPLE

           DriverName = ALN201$
           AdapterID  = @0000E2000047 ;  This item is only required when
                                      ;  more than one ALN201 adapters
                                      ;  exist on one system.

   Setup Procedures:
   -----------------
      Before you start with the installation process, make sure that the
      adapter  is properly  installed and  configured.  Make  sure  your
      Microsoft LAN Manager is properly installed.

      1. Run the appropriate Microsoft Lan Manager SETUP for computer
         you are setting up. Select "Configuration" item ,select the
         <Other Driver> item (the AcerLAN driver isn't included on the
         Lan Manager disk) and insert the AcerLAN driver disk,specify
         the drive name of the driver disk (don't specify the path name)
         and follow the directions.

      2. When completed, reboot your computer .


   NOTES:
   ------

      1. Parameters for the PROTOCOL.INI file:

         DRIVERNAME: This is the one required parameter. See example
                     at top of this document for syntax.

         AdapterID : This  keyword is provided  by ALN201, and is
                     required when  more  than  one  ALN201  adapters
                     exist on one system. You must modify the AdapterID
                     value in file, \LANMAN\PROTOCOL.INI, by yourself.

      2. Sample PROTOCOL.INI for LAN Manager:

           AdapterID  = @0000E2000047

      3. The AdapterID is the Ethernet Address of the ALN-201
         Ethernet card. You can find the value by running
         ACERSET.EXE -- the View Current Configuration\Ethernet
         Address item in DOS environment.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

• Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

• If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

• Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

• Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

• Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

• From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

• Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
