INTERIM CORRECTION INFORMATION LETTER UNISYS CORPORATION JUNE 22, 2004 MEDIA LABEL: NXSERVICES IC NAME: NX/SERVICES-009.0A.8 BASE RELEASE: 9.0 SOFTWARE: 50.189.8002 COVER/NXSERVICES 50.189.8001 LAUNCHER 50.189.8001 NXSERVICES/ADMINCENTER 50.189.8006 NXSERVICES/CLIENT 50.189.8003 NXSERVICES/FILESERVER 50.189.8001 NXSERVICES/PCDRIVER 50.189.8001 NXSERVICES/SERVER 50.189.8001 SYSTEM/NXSERVICES/DEFAULTCONFIG The associated Interim Correction package contains software which has been patched to address problems discovered in the base release software. Unless otherwise noted below, the base release software must be installed prior to the installation of this corrective software. Please be aware that this package may include patches which may not be included in subsequent releases. If you are concerned about the inclusion of a specific patch, please contact your local support center to assist in a determination of its inclusion in a subsequent release. NOTE: Should the filing of a subsequent UCF for this software become necessary, please include the level of the software as listed above. FEEDBACK REQUEST: After you install this Interim Correction, please take a few minutes to provide us with feedback on your installation, and whether the Interim Correction met your needs. We are very interested in hearing from you; your comments, suggestions and concerns regarding Interim Corrections are very important to us. If you have Web access, please use the following URL to complete the Interim Correction survey: http://www.support.unisys.com/aseries/Support/fixes.htm If you have email access but don't have access to the Web, please send your email address to WCUCF.Coordinator@Unisys.com for a copy of the survey. If you have neither Web nor Email access, please call (949) 380-6326 to obtain a copy of the survey. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Unisys recommends you install an IC package in the following situations: when it accompanies the base release software or Software Support Package, when it corrects a specific problem that you have encountered, or when it has been recommended by a Unisys support center to correct or analyze a problem that you have encountered. Caution: An IC package usually will have been tested less extensively than the base release software or Software Support Package. The software in this correction package includes NX/Services and Redirector MCP environment software, and the NX workstation utilities Administration Center and Explorer Extensions. INSTALLING CLIENT ACCESS SERVICES (NX/SERVICES) ON A CLEARPATH MCP SERVER: NX/Services updates have several interdependencies between the software components of this package. This requires scheduling of the installation of this correction package at a time when all users of NX/Services, NX/View, and other named pipe client server applications can be terminated for a brief period of time. These instructions use <packname> to represent the pack family on which you have installed NX/Services. Before beginning the installation process, please review the FALLBACK INSTRUCTIONS at the end of this document and take any necessary steps to prepare for possible fall back to the previous software level. Copy the current version of the affected files to a tape for safe keeping in case you need to use the fallback instructions. Enter: COPY *OBJECT/NXSERVICES, *SYSTEM/NXSERVICES/= FROM <packname>(PACK) to SAVENXSERVICES If desired, warn users of NX/Services that it is about to be updated. For instance, it may be appropriate to use Administration Center to send a broadcast message to all connected users that: NX/Services is going to be updated and restarted in 5 minutes. When you are ready to proceed with the update, bring down all components of NX/Services as follows: RUN *OBJECT/NXSERVICES ON <packname>("QUIT NX/SERVICES NOW") Note: This RUN command results in an RSVP message: Data will be lost when NX/Services is quit. AX OK to quit NX/Services. OK the termination of NX/Services using the <mix num> of the RSVP: <mix num>AX OK This Interim Correction can be installed using the manual installation instructions given below, or if this Interim Correction package includes a file beginning with the node INSTALLDATAFILE, it may also be installed using Simple Installation. Installation Center can-not be used as it depends on having NX/Services running. For Simple Installation: Please refer to the appropriate procedures documented in the: ClearPath Enterprise Servers Simple Installation Operations Guide (8807 6260) Ensure that the base release for the given Interim Correction has been previously installed. If using Simple Installation, first copy the install file to a pack family on the system and then specify the install file on the appropriate screen. If installing from a CD, use the install file titled INSTALLDATAFILE/SYSTEM/<media name>/CD. If installing from media other than a CD, use the install file titled INSTALLDATAFILE/SYSTEM/<media name>. To install all the files from this Interim Correction package, leave the Software Product Name field blank or specify *ALL*. When using Simple Installation to install files that have been previously copied to disk, select "Specify copy / installation options", then enter "Y" in the selection that says "Copy file from Disk instead of from the release media". This action will bring up a screen on which you can specify the directory name and usercode. For manual installation: Install the new files. Enter: COPY = FROM <tapename> to <packname>(PACK) Enter the following SL commands: SL ADMINCENTER = *SYSTEM/NXSERVICES/ADMINCENTER ON <packname>: TRUSTED, ONEONLY, LINKCLASS=1 SL NAMESERVICE = *SYSTEM/NXSERVICES/NAMESERVER ON <packname>: MCPINIT, TRUSTED, ONEONLY, LINKCLASS = 1 SL REDIRSUPPORT = *SYSTEM/NXSERVICES/REDIRECTOR ON <packname>: TRUSTED, LINKCLASS=1 SL CREDENTIALSUPPORT = *SYSTEM/NXSERVICES/CREDENTIALSUPPORT ON <packname> For IC Update from the Unisys Product Support Web Site: 1. Double-click on the NXSERVICES.EXE that you downloaded from the Unisys support web site. 2. In the Unzip To Folder field of the Winzip Self-Extractor screen, choose a permanent location to extract the files onto your workstation. Choose the default location, or specify a permanent location. 3. Choose Unzip to start the file extraction. Choose Close when the extraction is completed. 4. You will now have two files in the extraction location on your workstation: NXSERVIC.CON and NXSERVIC.TXT. To UNWRAP the container (.CON) file, please refer to the instructions for using the Unisys ClearPath WRAP/UNWRAP mechanism on the Unisys support website. 5. After UNWRAPping the container file, you will have the IC files on your ClearPath host in the location you specified in the unwrap process. At this point run Simple Installation, following the instructions that were documented earlier in this letter. Simple Installation will copy the files to the AdminCenter and NXExtend directories of the INSTALLS share. 6. When Simple Installation completes, proceed to the instructions below for installing NX/Services on a Windows system. Note, it is very important to save the extracted files in a permanent location on your system because you will need the AdminCenter.msi and NXExtend.msi files to Modify, Repair, or Remove your installation at a later date. DO NOT REMOVE these files from your system. After either form of installation, restart all components of NX/Services. Enter: RUN *OBJECT/NXSERVICES ON <packname>("START <packname>") INSTALLING ADMINISTRATION CENTER AND EXPLORER EXTENSIONS ON A WINDOWS-BASED SYSTEM: All workstations and servers on which Administration Center is installed should be updated. This is necessary because it is possible that some old versions of the workstation client software will not function properly after the server software is updated. Use the installation instructions provided immediately below. Any workstations and servers on which Explorer Extensions are installed may be updated to the new version, if desired. To install the new version of either utility: 1. From each workstation which requires the new software, connect to the INSTALLS share on the MCP server updated above. 2. Within the INSTALLS share, change to the appropriate directory - either AdminCenter or NXExtend.updated. 3. Double-click (launch) the ICUPDATE.VBS file in that directory. This will initiate the Microsoft Windows Installer. Follow the instructions given by the Installer. The IC update will automatically update the previous installed software components. In other words, it will behave like a service pack and update the components that have previously been installed. Subsequent Modify, Repair, or Remove of the Administration Center or Explorer Extensions installations can be accomplished by running the respective new .msi file or going to the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, selecting 'Unisys Administration Center' or 'Unisys Explorer Extensions', then selecting Change or Add/Remove. Consult the PATCHNOTES files, especially the PATCHNOTES/DEFAULTCONFIG file, to see if any additional updates to the installation of NX/Services is required. FALLBACK INSTRUCTIONS: FALLBACK FOR FILES ON A CLEARPATH MCP SERVER: If desired, warn users of NX/Services that it is about to be updated. When you are ready to proceed with the update, bring down all components of NX/Services as described in INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. Restore the previously saved version of these files. Enter: COPY = FROM SAVENXSERVICES TO <packname>(PACK) Enter the SL commands and restart NX/Services as described in INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. FALLBACK FOR FILES ON A WINDOWS-BASED WORKSTATION OR SERVER: All workstations and servers on which the updated Administration Center and Explorer Extensions were installed should be restored to the previous version, if necessary. To do this, first uninstall this new version by going to the Start Menu, selecting Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs. From Add/Remove Programs, select Unisys <product name>, and select Remove. Then re-install the previous version using the installation instructions provided with the old version. IF THE IC UPDATE FAILS: If the IC Update fails, the Windows Installer will automatically roll back to the previous install. When the ICUpdate.vbs runs, it generates a log file and a text file. Please submit these files when you ask us to analyze the problem. These files will be located under: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Unisys\MCP\<product name>\ <product name><version-level>.LOG, C:\Program Files\Common Files\Unisys\MCP\<product name>\ <product name><version>IC.TXT.Download Driver Pack
