Objective
*********
This file provides information on the usage of flash PROM programming utility FLASH.EXE.

Warning!
********
This utility is only for upgrading the flash PROM. The instructions should be followed
exactly as printed. It could cause your flash PROM in the drive to be corrupted if not
used properly.

Usage of FLASH.EXE
******************
This program requires DOS environment to function properly.

If you are using Windows 95, please restart your system by clicking [Start] [Shut Down] and
[Restart the computer]. When you see the message "Starting Windows 95...", press the "F8" key
and select "Safe Mode Command Prompt Only".

If you are using Windows 98, please restart your system by clicking [Start] [Shut Down] and
[Restart the computer]. Press and hold the "CTRL" key until you see the Start-Up Menu and
select "Safe Mode Command Prompt Only".

If you are using Windows NT, please use a DOS boot disk.

Put the flash BIOS disk into your floppy drive. We are assuming it is A:. (This is the disk
that was created when you double-clicked the FLSH1622.EXE program.)

(1) At the C:\ prompt, type A: then press Enter.

(2) At the A:\ prompt, type FLASH.EXE and press Enter.

(3) Highlight [Drive Selection] and press Enter.
Select the location of the drive (Primary Master (usually hard drive), Primary Slave,
Secondary Master, Secondary Slave). If you don't know the location of the drive, try each
choice until it sees the Memorex CRW-1622. You can check if the [Current Drive Selected]
indicates the drive that you want to upgrade the BIOS (e.g. Memorex CRW-1622).

(4) Next, select [Download Firmware] and press the Enter key.
The program will prompt you if you want to download the flash code without asking you to
make any selection.

Follow prompts along the way to hit any key.

Then the program will proceed to download the code into drive and will show you a checksum
if file successfully downloaded.

(5) Finally, select [Quit This Program] and Reboot the system by switching off and on power
switch as warm reboot will not reset the drive. The drive will boot with the new firmware code
after this.
